The duo return with a live-set favourite, fresh from the release of their debut album It’s The Hope That Kills You

The Itch have shared their new single ‘Planned Obsolescence’, marking their first new music since the release of their debut album It’s The Hope That Kills You in April 2026 via Fiction Records / I OH YOU. The duo are also set to perform at Iceland Airwaves this weekend, alongside announcing a headline London show at a secret location on 2 December.

A cornerstone of The Itch’s live set for some time, ‘Planned Obsolescence’ sees Simon and Georgia channel capitalism-induced existentialism into a frenetic fusion of big beat and electroclash. Equal parts dancefloor catharsis and disenchanted pop, the track captures the duo’s knack for transforming modern anxieties into something irresistibly kinetic.

Speaking about the single, Simon and Georgia explain: “The song itself is about things being designed to break and the feeling that we're all being built to wear out too; eventually we all become as replaceable as our gadgets. But in the meantime, we can make pretend, have fun until time's up. It's a song for people always saying 'One day...' but that day never comes.”

The new single follows September’s release of ‘It’s The Hope That Kills You (Hopeless Version)’, the first studio recording Simon and Georgia have assembled with The Itch’s full live band. Reflecting the evolution of the album’s title track throughout their time on the road, the release offers a glimpse into the increasingly expansive sound of the project.

Released in April 2026, debut album It’s The Hope That Kills You finds The Itch embracing the tension between optimism and pessimism, pairing undulating dancefloor fillers with disenchanted pop songwriting. Across the record, Simon and Georgia draw on a wide range of influences to create a sound that feels both distinctly of the moment and a welcome antidote to it.

The album’s singles have also inspired a series of remixes, with The Itch collaborating with The Twins, 1-800 GIRLS and Tom Sharkett.

2026 has seen the duo cement their reputation as a compelling live force, with appearances across the UK and Europe at Green Man, Forwards, The Great Escape, Haldern, Mutations and Dot to Dot. Their Green Man performance saw the Rising Stage reach capacity during their Sunday night headline slot, before the pair joined Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, Fcukers and Another Country $$$$ for a surprise late-night DJ set.

The Itch now head to Reykjavík for Iceland Airwaves this Saturday, before returning to London for a headline show at a secret location on 2 December. Their single ‘No More Sprechgesang’ has also recently been confirmed for inclusion on the soundtrack to EA Sports FC 27, the latest instalment in the football video game franchise formerly known as FIFA.

With ‘Planned Obsolescence’ arriving alongside a growing live schedule, The Itch continue to build momentum following a debut album that captures the contradictions, frustrations and fleeting joys of modern life.
