Hailing from the heart of London, The Dark Light is boldly staking its claim in the vibrant British live rock'n'roll scene. This eclectic quartet boasts the talents of Liverpudlian vocalist Gerard Edwards, Basque drummer Gorka Ibañez, Italian guitarist Roberto Cicorella, and East London bassist Sonny Moylan—an international fusion currently immersing themselves in the diverse musical landscape of London. With a deep and addictive melodic allure, the band continues to expand its repertoire of timeless rock'n'roll-infused tracks, blending modern sophistication with mesmerizing melodies.
We spoke to them about the tracks that shaped their sound, enjoy!
The ugliest song title of our list. Black Sabbath is definitely one of the strongest influences that we have in our music: riffs, an overall fuzzy sound, distorted bass and poignant lyrics.
“War Pigs” has everything we need to compare to our last single ‘Holy Rolla’. A song doesn't have to be the loudest, fastest or hardest to be the most powerful.lla’.
We don’t need to explain what The Beatles mean to musicians, nor what they’ve done for music, but we believe there is a reason the band will live forever. This song particularly was an inspiration for the outro of ‘Holy Rolla’, with the psychedelic arpeggio and music that sends you to a place that you’ve (hopefully) never experienced before. Plus - our singer is from Liverpool - so there would be rage should The Beatles not feature in any list we write. Ever.
Royal Blood was growing fast in the UK, gaining fame early in their career. However, to our Italian guitarist, RB went completely unknown until 2018 - the date of our first album release. Royal Blood's tight, modern sound completely changed the vision that we had with our studio music: the bass can play lead melodies along with the guitar; splitting the sound of the bass in two channels, one in the guitar amp with an octave pedal, the other in the DI clean and full of body. It's rock with a polished sound yet often breaks traditional rules, which we admire.
From Memphis - Tennessee, this psychedelic blues rock band was previously a trio, now a quartet that started in 2010 and released their first album in 2011. Never heard them? Change that right now (or at least after you listen to The Dark Light's latest single...). It’s a solid inspiration for sound and bluesy riffs, but mostly, this band has nailed the challenge of frequencies and tones between few instruments in a studio - a HUGE well produced sound that can be replicated from a live stage, a feeling we also aim to deliver live.
