Minneapolis shoegaze favourites she’s green have released their long-awaited new EP, swallowtail, out now via Photo Finish Records, marking their most ambitious and fully realised body of work to date.
Produced and mixed by Sonny DiPerri (DIIV, julie), swallowtail sees the five-piece push beyond the hazy foundations of their earlier releases, pairing towering guitars with luminous dream-pop textures and Zofia Smith's unmistakably ethereal vocals. The result is a richly immersive collection that explores themes of self-discovery, transformation, politics and humanity through the band's enduring connection to the natural world.
Serving as both a creative evolution and a statement of intent, swallowtail is the band's first project to be recorded entirely in a professional studio. Speaking about the release, guitarist Liam Armstrong describes the EP as "an emergence" that expands upon the band's previous work, capturing dreams and memories in the wake of profound personal transformation while marking a new approach to songwriting and recording.
Leading the release is the self-directed video for EP opener "locket," a poignant meditation on emotional distance and the people who remain just out of reach. "'locket' is about the people we try to reach but can't," explains vocalist Zofia Smith. "The ones who keep their hearts closed off, refusing to open up even when a part of them might long to."
Building on the momentum of acclaimed singles "close your eyes," "mettle," "paper thin" and "empty house," the EP arrives following widespread praise from NME, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, DORK, Notion, Clash and Wonderland, alongside support from BBC Radio 1 Future Artists, BBC 6 Music and NTS Radio. Earlier this year, the band were also named in the NME100, recognising them as one of the essential emerging artists to watch in 2026.
Since emerging from Minneapolis' DIY basement scene, she's green have steadily built a devoted international following through their emotionally resonant songwriting and captivating live performances. Their blend of Cocteau Twins-inspired dream-pop, Slowdive's atmospheric grandeur and My Bloody Valentine's distortion has seen them graduate from intimate venues to sold-out headline shows and tours alongside the likes of Blondshell, Softcult, Chapterhouse and Turnover.
To celebrate the release of swallowtail, she's green will embark on their debut UK and European headline tour later this summer, culminating in appearances at Reading & Leeds Festival before dates across the UK, France, Belgium, Denmark and Germany.
Alongside the digital release, swallowtail is also available as a limited-edition vinyl pressing, paired with the band's previous EP Chrysalis to create the first physical release showcasing the full scope of she's green's evolving sound.
With swallowtail, she's green continue to establish themselves as one of the defining new voices in modern shoegaze—balancing towering sonic landscapes with deeply human songwriting that lingers long after the final note fades.
