After nearly a decade of dominating the underground rap scene with short-form releases and singles, Toronto's multidisciplinary artist, Matthew Progress, has dropped a seismic debut album, 'God Made Dirt.' In a sonic revelation, Progress's first full-length project stands as a testament to his evolution as an expressive force in the Toronto underground. 'God Made Dirt' dives deep into Matthew's universe, delivering a punch of thought-provoking meditations on nihilism, the cosmos, authoritarianism, and the intricate dance between the divine and primal.

Teaming up with producer Dan Only (known for collaborations with River Tiber and a l l i e), 'God Made Dirt' is a musical mosaic influenced by abstract Hip-Hop, punk, electronica, trap, funk, and psychedelia. Drawing inspiration from legends like Ol' Dirty Bastard, Kelis, Alice Coltrane, and Sun Ra, the album is a groundbreaking fusion of diverse genres.

The release follows the success of singles 'Gen Pop,' 'Doc Neville,' and 'Digital Underground,' which drew comparisons to the likes of OutKast, Parliament-Funkadelic, Rick James, and The Free Nationals. Critical acclaim poured in from respected outlets such as COLORS, GUAP, Exclaim, Complex Canada, and BBC 6Music shows hosted by Mary Anne Hobbs and Jamz Supernova.

This marks Matthew Progress's first major project since his 2018 EP 'Slumber Magic War,' known for the standout track 'Sip Test,' lauded by VICE/Noisey and Complex. Steeped in Afro-surrealism, nihilism, and pan-Africanist ideals, Progress's musical journey began with his 2014 debut 'Night.Rhetoric,' followed by the avant-garde 'Le Fog' in 2017.

In describing the album's significance, Progress stated, "This body of work represents the culmination of all my interests, ideas, artistic influences, trauma, and healing over the past few years. Our world has never felt more dystopian, and these nine tracks are my attempt to document the feeling. Myself and Dan Only aligned to build an LP we are very proud of. I consider this my most significant creation to date." 'God Made Dirt' is not just an album; it's a landmark in the evolution of Matthew Progress's artistry.
