With the launch of his new imprint Resonance Spectrum Records, Manchester-based producer and DJ Nickon Faith is firmly in the latter camp. His debut EP Love Colours—featuring a killer remix from On Rotation's Lisene—isn’t just a collection of tracks; it’s a manifesto for a music community rooted in warmth, psychedelia, and deep connection.
From hypnotic trance pulses to driving techno grooves and dreamlike soundscapes, Nickon’s sonic palette is as expansive as his vision. We sat down with him to talk about starting a label from scratch, the philosophy behind Resonance Spectrum, and why this isn’t just a release—it’s an invitation.
"Love Colours" is such a rich and immersive debut — what was the vision behind starting Resonance Spectrum Records, and how does this release set the tone for what’s to come?
I’ve had the idea of starting a label of my own for a good two years now. I always wanted the premise to involve electronic music that maybe felt a bit on the fringes. Tracks that don’t need to be strictly dance music focused but more just an experience in itself. I wanted to showcase my love for music and variety bringing in a spectrum of different sound palettes and ideas, which has kind of been what I’ve tried to do with the ethos of Nickon Faith as a whole. So it’s that in label form almost, but I feel from the label perspective it’s come with the bank of experience I have gained over the years to create a project that feels more polished and coherent, but simultaneously colourful, artistic and free. So it’s like a spectrum of sounds that resonate with you in a meaningful way, which is kind of partially how the idea of the name came about. I discussed a lot of ideas about visual identity with the brand designer 2step.png and how to get this vibrant eclecticism in art form. Got really into looking at closeups of flowers and psychedelic geometric patterns and he really did a great job bringing everything to life.
I think Love Colours sets the tone nicely as it embodies a lot of that vision, Colourful, artistic, free, very warm and evocative. There are a couple artists signed to the label already and I feel much of that dynamic is expressed in their respective EP’s and I feel there will be a good deal of variety in the music to come, but with this kind of very expressive and vibrant thread running through the tracks of the label as a whole.
There’s a strong psychedelic thread running through both “Love Colours” and “Inner Thoughts.” What draws you to those textures and moods in dance music, and how do you approach crafting that sense of euphoria or introspection in your productions?
I think these psychedelic textures & resonances can be very evocative. Things start feeling more like a sonic exploration and these textures give off a very warm, versatile and expressive sound palette. Like there is something very visceral and euphoric about it all that I have found really captivating, but then it can be very moody and earthy as well. I’ve always been a fan of ethereal euphoria and proggy electronica. Integrating the psychedelia aspect has really added a new dimension and depth to it all. I also like mixing in a bit of organic instrumentation, like YanQuin glissando’s in the breakdown of Love Colours with the pads, and Tingsha bells dotted about the EP really give it that high up in the mountains type feel - I like invoking imagery in my tunes with ideas like these. I think I’m quite an introspective person aswell, and this aspect of myself comes out in a lot of my tunes.
Lisene’s remix brings a completely different energy while staying true to the original. What made him the right collaborator for this project, and how did you feel about his reimagining of “Inner Thoughts”?
First off I really love his tunes, I think Lisene has been a massive inspiration to me and quite influential in how I think about my productions - I love his sound palette, the depth of the productions, the level of detail. Often you listen to someone’s music and get really inspired and really start reflecting on the way you think about your own music - I take a lot more care and think about my productions way more deeply these days and his influence was definitely part of that mindset shift. Naturally, I was pretty overjoyed to have him work on a remix. Initially he was going to do Love Colours, but I think there is more to bite into with Inner Thoughts.
The remix itself is really stellar and feels like a massive breath of fresh air, compared to the other two more 4 to the floor banging tracks, the vibe switch really works as it almost feels like the comedown after Inner Thoughts, which is like the peak as it gets really loud and crazy - all systems go type vibe. But also really sustains a strong deep and dancy energy. I love how most of the elements of the original are still there, it just feels more ethereal, spaced out and expansive. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve listened to the first 2 tracks too much, but the remix is actually my favourite track of the EP aha.
The EP flows from trancey warmth into darker techno and finishes on something more broken and ethereal. Was that progression intentional — and how important is narrative or emotional arc in your releases?
With Love Colours I wanted to create something that felt very in the clouds but also very grounded simultaneously. Which has generally been the direction my music recently as a whole has been headed. Narrative is pretty important to me as the way I’ve consumed music for most of my life has been the, sit there with headphones and listen to the whole album and go through that journey, type experience. So I’m very conscious of that at all times. Like yes this is clubby dance music, but the club is almost a bit of an afterthought for me, at heart I just want to make really cool & immersive bodies of music at the end of the day, which is one of my main overarching musical goals I’d say.
The progression of this EP came really naturally I feel, I just had these two tunes I was really proud of and realised they complemented each other really well, and felt like a real progression. Love Colours lulling you in with a slight false sense of euphoric security to the loud and kind of chaotic Inner Thoughts, and Lisene remix was just the icing on the cake really. Super pleased with how the EP materialised. Think it’s some of my best and most evocative music to date.
You’ve launched the label with a clear identity — warm, eclectic, immersive. What does Resonance Spectrum hope to bring to the wider dance music scene that you feel is currently missing or underrepresented?
It’s not that I feel something is necessarily missing or under-represented here, but I hope RSR brings a bit of a new perspective and sound that feels vibrant, fun and retains that kind of joy aspect, whilst also being serious tunes, proper experiences and impactful evocative music essentially. Warm, glorpy psychedelia and beyond for the clubs, afters and home. Bringing a bit of a twist or new angle to already quite a subtle and forward thinking niche in dance music.
