Keegan Powell turns up the voltage on new album Between The Halls

Toronto songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Keegan Powell is back with Between The Halls, a nine-track album that collides hazy atmospheres, dark-edged rock and sugar-rush power-pop hooks. Out now, the record finds Powell leaning into the tension between intimacy and unease, building songs that feel as melodic as they are restless.

Latest single ‘Miracle’ offers a way into Powell’s world, where brooding moods meet soaring melodies and lyrics that leave more questions than answers. Across Between The Halls, he moves between shadowy introspection and high-voltage energy, refusing to settle into one sound or mood for too long.

That restless approach has run through Powell’s career. He first made his mark as guitarist in Toronto rock band Teenage Kicks, whose 2014 debut Spoils of Youth was recorded with Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. He has since contributed songs to Chastity’s albums Death Lust, Home Made Satan and Suffer Summer, and joined studio project Darling Congress as lead guitarist in 2020.

Powell’s solo work has followed its own winding path. His 2022 debut Previous Pain produced five singles across college and satellite radio, while 2023’s Fear Be Gone drew on his writing beyond music, blending literary ideas with songwriting. Between The Halls continues that evolution, with Powell once again pushing beyond familiar territory rather than sticking to a single formula.

To support the new album, Powell is heading out on a run of Canadian dates, starting in St. Catharines on 18 October, with further shows in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Guelph and Hamilton. More dates are expected in 2027.
