London songwriter Elanor Moss has unveiled her poignant new single, 'The Way That it Feels', the latest preview of her forthcoming debut album, The Knife, The Needle, arriving August 21st via Merge Records.
Following the acclaimed lead single 'Sarah Waiting in the Car'—praised by Brooklyn Vegan for its delicate orchestration and by Clash for recalling the spirit of Vashti Bunyan while carving out a distinct identity—'The Way That it Feels' leans further into Moss' quietly captivating world. Built around birdsong, intricate classical guitar and her unmistakably tender vocal, the track meditates on the paradoxes of intimacy, capturing the fragile space between truly knowing someone and recognising that part of them will always remain beyond reach.
Speaking about the song, Moss explains: "This was the last song written for the album, and feels to me like it sums up the spirit of the record. The more I learn about love the less I know, the more I know about someone, the more I know I don't know them. Love asks us to hold contradiction without giving in to its discomfort. A song about not turning away, but turning towards."
The release is accompanied by a beautifully shot new video directed by award-winning filmmaker Matthew Thorne. Filmed on 16mm in Greece's Peloponnese with cinematographer Tasos Chatzis, it marks the second instalment in an ongoing visual collaboration that mirrors the song's dreamlike, reflective atmosphere.
Across its nine tracks, The Knife, The Needle explores the transformative power of love through richly textured psych-folk, balancing moments of joy, grief and quiet revelation. Originally recorded in New York before being completely reimagined in the Scottish Highlands with producer Pete Miles, the album embraces a more restrained, intimate approach—one Moss describes as "quieter, weirder, more English."
To celebrate the release, Moss has also announced a run of UK headline dates stretching from August through December, including album in-store performances and a full autumn tour.
'The Way That it Feels' is available now, while The Knife, The Needle arrives on August 21st via Merge Records.
