Dublin trio DIVIL have released their powerful new single "ORANGUTAN", the latest preview of their debut EP DIVIL I, arriving on 19th June. Made up of lifelong friends Danny Dempsey McMahon, Jocelyn Vance, and Conor Cusack, DIVIL are quickly emerging as one of Ireland's most emotionally honest new bands. Their music is rooted in real-life experiences of grief, friendship, illness, and survival, with DIVIL I capturing those moments as they unfolded in real time.
Following debut single "Thanks A Million", which explored the importance of community during difficult times, "ORANGUTAN" turns its focus inward. The track is a frantic, restless exploration of escapism and self-destruction, documenting the urge to outrun your problems while knowing you're heading in the wrong direction.
Built around a hypnotic guitar loop inspired by vintage Dean Martin samba records, the song evolved from a spontaneous recording captured by vocalist Danny on his iPad. Rather than re-recording it in the studio, the band chose to keep the original take, preserving the raw energy and immediacy that became central to the track's identity.
The release arrives during an incredibly significant period for the band. Shortly after the death of Danny's father, bassist Conor Cusack was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. More recently, Conor travelled to Belgium for an emergency pioneering surgery that could dramatically improve his prognosis, with supporters rallying behind a fundraiser that raised more than €100,000 for him and his family.
That emotional backdrop runs throughout DIVIL I, a debut EP that doesn't shy away from life's darkest moments but instead transforms them into something cathartic, urgent, and deeply human.
With "ORANGUTAN", DIVIL deliver another striking statement of intent—chaotic, vulnerable, and impossible to ignore.
DIVIL I is released on 19th June and features the tracks "Thanks A Million", "ORANGUTAN", and "Chewing Gum".
