Franco-American art-pop provocateurs Faux Real have unveiled their exhilarating new single ‘One & Done’, arriving alongside a self-directed video as the latest preview of their forthcoming sophomore album Poison Time, due for release on September 4th via b4.
At the same time, the duo have announced an extensive headline tour spanning North America, the UK and Europe, taking their celebrated theatrical live show to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic later this year.
Following recent singles ‘That Far’ and ‘Seesaw’, ‘One & Done’ finds brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt at their most immediate yet. Built around infectious hooks, propulsive rhythms and the pair's unmistakable art-pop eccentricity, the track transforms the anxiety of life's one-shot moments into a euphoric anthem that demands to be danced to.
Inspired by Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being and the German expression Einmal ist Keinmal ("once is never"), the song wrestles with the impossibility of recreating any experience twice.
“One & Done was inspired by The Unbearable Lightness of Being and the German idiom 'Einmal ist Keinmal': once is never,” the duo explain. “No experience can ever be fully replicated. A song born from ontological frustration. A video like Groundhog Day, looping in near-perfect repetition... You only get to watch One & Done for the first time once: make it count.”
The accompanying self-directed visual continues Faux Real's reputation for pairing bold pop songwriting with striking performance-led filmmaking, further blurring the line between concert, theatre and conceptual art.
The single offers another glimpse into Poison Time, an album recorded at home in Los Angeles that embraces a more instinctive, emotionally direct approach than its predecessor. While retaining the duo's playful subversion, the record explores themes of identity, authenticity and self-perception through shimmering pop melodies and richly layered production.
That artistic vision extends beyond the music. The album artwork, photographed by Grant Spanier, draws inspiration from Marina Abramović's iconic performance piece Rest Energy, depicting the brothers suspended above dark waters in an image that mirrors the tension and vulnerability running throughout the record.
Since emerging with their self-titled EP in 2020, Faux Real have built a devoted following through their wildly inventive live performances, where choreography, practical effects and surreal humour collide with irresistible pop hooks. Touring alongside the likes of Wet Leg and Metronomy, while earning acclaim from The Guardian, DIY, Loud And Quiet, NOTION and Alternative Press, the duo have steadily established themselves as one of alternative pop's most original voices.
With Poison Time on the horizon and a major international tour now confirmed, Faux Real look set to continue pushing the boundaries between performance art and pop music.
‘One & Done’ is out now. Poison Time arrives September 4th via b4.
