Brighton's fiercely unapologetic alt-pop duo COWZ are back with a bang on their latest single, Miss Antoinette – a bold, confrontational anthem that channels frustration, wit and social commentary into one of their most explosive releases yet.
Available now via APOLLO Distribution, Miss Antoinette sees the self-produced queer duo continue their mission of creating what they describe as "girl's girl music with violent and political undertones", pairing huge pop hooks with razor-sharp observations on classism, privilege and inequality within the creative industries.
Driven by towering synths, distorted basslines and layered vocal arrangements, the track delivers a powerful critique of nepotism and the barriers faced by artists without financial backing or industry connections.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, vocalist Tasha explains that Miss Antoinette was born from the duo's own experiences navigating the music and arts worlds alongside creators who benefit from wealth, privilege and inherited opportunities.
At its core, the single is a protest song wrapped in an irresistible alt-pop package. While the production is packed with anthemic energy, a melancholic undercurrent runs throughout, reflecting the frustrations of trying to build a creative career without the advantages many others take for granted.
"Musically, Miss Antoinette is a big anthem with a melancholic undertone," adds bandmate Saga. "Big synths, big bass, distortion and stacked vocals that deliver both societal critique and a wish that life wasn't so damn hard when you don't have money."
The release continues a remarkable run for COWZ, who have quickly become one of the UK's most exciting alternative acts. Following a sold-out London headline show, a BBC Introducing Sussex Live Lounge session and a string of major festival appearances, the duo's rise shows no signs of slowing.
Their unique fusion of punk attitude, pop accessibility and political commentary has earned praise from across the industry, with KERRANG! declaring, "This is what the future of punk looks like," while Radio 1's Jack Saunders simply described them as "psychotic" in the best possible way.
With Miss Antoinette, COWZ prove once again that they're far more than just another alt-pop act. They're fearless, provocative and unafraid to challenge the status quo – all while delivering some of the most infectious hooks you'll hear this year.
Miss Antoinette is out now on all major streaming platforms.
