Amelie Lens: Taking the electronic dance scene by storm

I first discovered my love for techno when I was living in Leeds. I would spend my days buried in books, and by night buried underground in the dark and intimate Distrikt bar, pumping out electronic, house and techno music every night until the early hours.

I was infatuated with the likes of Hot since 82, Patrick Topping and Green Velvet who have accumulated a large fan base over the years for their predominantly tech/house tracks. However, I don’t think I really understood just how vast and rich the world of techno was until my Dutch friend sent me an extensive playlist of European hardcore/ minimal/acid techno stemming from Germany, Belgium and Holland. This is where I found the mesmerising vocals juxtaposed with the relentless, body moving bass of Amelie Lens’s tracks.

Amelie Lens is a Belgian electronic DJ and producer, who ascended to the spotlight when her climatic track ‘Exhale’ was released by Italian record label Lyase in 2016. Closely followed by her most popular EP to date, Contradiction, which was released in 2017. Undoubtedly proving to be one of the most exciting names in the techno scene right now, not only is she taking the scene by storm with her ferocious, harcore beats but she is also one of the leading female figures producing up-tempo European techno in a male dominated industry. This summer she played at some of the world’s leading dance music festivals such as: Sonas (Spain), Boomtown (UK) , Kappa Futur (Italy) and Awakenings (Holland).

Her latest EP ‘Little Robot’ released on the 13th of September 2019, does not fail to live up to her previous standards. Demonstrating her undeniable talent in producing tracks which put her in the same league as some of the old- school tech producers such as Nina Kravis and Len Faki. She’s playing at Mint Warehouse Leeds on the 29th of November, Invisible Wind Factory Liverpool the same night and Fabric London on the 30th November. Better get in there fast for tickets, as this girl’s on fire!
