Young Martyrs Unveil Cinematic Video for ‘Never Gave You The Blues’

Bath-based alt-Americana outfit Young Martyrs have revealed the cinematic music video for their fan-favourite single “Never Gave You The Blues,” bringing fresh life to a track already beloved by audiences. Shot by Furball Films and steeped in evocative storytelling, the video pairs perfectly with the band’s signature blend of delicate rhythms, soaring guitar lines, and heartfelt harmonies.

Originally appearing on their 2023 sophomore album Time Is Not On Our Side, the song—produced by Sebastian Brice at Real World Studios and featuring guest vocals from Natalie Brice (Sinnober)—is a poignant exploration of love’s unraveling. “It’s about the breakdown of something beautiful, but he sees it one way and she sees it another,” explains vocalist Tom Corneill. “He says if he’d known it was going to hurt them both he would never have started it… but we know that’s not really true.”

The track has long been a standout for fans. After the band’s debut UK tour of sold-out shows, “Never Gave You The Blues” was the song audiences shouted for the loudest. Corneill adds, “This was always a favourite, but being a self-funded band, we’d run out of budget after releasing the album’s first single. When we finally got some funding, we knew we had to put something special together for it.”

Since forming in 2020, Young Martyrs have sold out venues nationwide, supported acts including Badly Drawn Boy, The Hoosiers, and McFly, and graced stages at Glastonbury, Rock Oyster, and beyond. Their second album propelled them across the Atlantic for NYC shows and earned glowing praise from Americana and indie circles alike.
