Body: SYML
This is a song I can listen to daily and never get bored. The tone and meaning in his voice coupled with the simple but effective production cuts through anything I’m thinking about at the time and makes me listen. I relate with him as I also try not to complicate my song writing and prefer the simple but effective technique.
Cut my hair: beaux
Beaux’s voice in this song is honest and genuine. He writes like a story which is something I’ve always done. I also like to use harmony in some sections of my songs like he’s done here. His use of melody with no words is also a thing I like to do in many of my songs. I relate so much to this one.
Riverside: Agnes Obel
Agnes’s voice is one I have always loved. It sounds pure and holy. Her use of strings is also beautiful and it’s a vibe I’ve often lent on when trying to convey emotion and variation. This song is the kind that sticks in my head like a sweet fragrance.
Shadowfeet: Brooke Fraser
I have been able to listen to Brooke’s music in a different way since I’ve been song writing more myself. I like the turns she makes in her music and sometimes it’s unexpected but always wanted. She is a wordsmith and a great singer, she’s also great live. Like Brooke, I like to create intrigue in my songs without being to avant-garde.
Berlin: RY X
This song is always one I come back to. It’s inspiring and creates an atmosphere right from the start. He’s the kind of person I can imagine would be the presence in a room from people respecting him and his creativity. His song writing has always influenced mine.
