INTRODUCING: JO FROM SCHOOL

North London newcomer jo from school has arrived with a striking debut in the form of ‘Chicken’ — an emotionally raw, sharply written first release out now via Chess Club Records.

Produced by Hugo M. Hardy (Nieve Ella, Matilda Mann, Esme Emerson), ‘Chicken’ captures the chaos, shame and emotional fallout of first heartbreak, balancing vulnerability with a loose, unfiltered honesty that immediately marks jo from school out as a compelling new voice.

Accompanied by a surreal, tennis-court-set visual co-directed alongside creative collaborator Rosa Levenson, the release introduces jo’s world in full: intimate, self-aware and creatively fearless.

Speaking on the track, jo explains: “‘Chicken’ represents fear, shame and embarrassment. It’s about leaving a person and a time behind. ‘Chickening’ is about cowardice, but is also a reference to the beautiful & cheap ‘chicken’ wine my friends and I love dearly.”

Already building momentum through appearances at Rotterdam’s Left of The Dial festival and support slots alongside Daffo and TTSSFU, jo from school is quickly becoming one of the most exciting names emerging from London’s alternative scene.

Recently signed to the influential Chess Club Records — home to early releases from Wolf Alice and Billie Marten — the 22-year-old artist combines graceful songwriting with an instinct for imperfection, creating songs that feel both deeply personal and quietly devastating.

jo from school will headline London’s iconic 100 Club on 9th June, with further live dates expected to be announced soon.
