Gothenburg alternative rock six-piece Divers return with Shapeshifting — their darkest, heaviest and most expansive release to date. Recorded at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, the EP captures a band pushing further into transformation, tension and emotional intensity while holding onto the cinematic atmosphere that has become their signature.
Led by the haunting presence of vocalist Lina Horner, new single The Hunt explores modern obsession, disconnection and the endless chase for validation in today’s welfare society. Moody, hypnotic and strangely danceable, the track sets the tone for an EP rooted in change, reflection and creative rebirth.
Following the acclaim of One Million Crystal, Divers continue evolving — shapeshifting into something bolder, stranger and more fearless than ever before.
1. What did you want listeners to feel with ‘The Hunt’?
We weren´t sure what we wanted the listeners to feel but our feeling was a feeling of not knowing what will come next. In that feeling we wanted the vocals and sound to capture the listeners attention right from the start and be stuck throughout the song. Like. the voice leads you through your despair. All of the details, the energetic drums and moog bass, the strange male choir answering the challenging but still reflective lead vocals. A bit quirky , maybe a bit scary but danceable too with a sing-a-long chorus that opens up for something else!
2. What is the song about lyrically?
We walk down the street and meet people with their faces down, they are looking at their phones. They look unhappy. We sit on a bus and almost no one seems to catch our eyes. They look unhappy. Maybe we sit down ourselves and maybe we take up our phones from our pockets. Looking for something but don't know what. A dopamine rush? But does it make us happy? We buy something as we watch the world fall apart around us. White men with power seem to have hunted their way through the horde of people that the rest of us are to them , those who get in their way are just prey. We feel hunted but realize that at the same time we are also hunters. When will the vicious circle be broken?
3. How did recording at Hansa Studios influence the sound of the EP?
The sound of these new songs is very much a product of the feeling in the room while recording at Hansa Studios. It was something about that room that made us really focused still open in a mutual creative zone. In a way you really feel the spirit of everyone that has recorded there stuck in the walls, the instruments and the famous console. That’s a magic feeling but at the same time we felt totally free to do our thing and capture these new songs exactly the way we wanted.
4. What themes run through Shapeshifting?
Precisely that: transformation and personal evolution. Changes in life and thereby a new kind of awareness.
5. Where do you feel this EP sits in the evolution of Divers?
Maybe when we made One Million Crystals we thought we had reached our musical core, but the more music we make, the more it turns out that even if we are getting really close we´re still far from there. That´s the beauty of making music. Shapeshifting shows a step along the way in a journey without an end goal.
