Introducing: Chloe Clouds

With raw honesty and velvet-smooth vocals, Chloe Clouds is fast becoming a name to watch. Blending Americana warmth, Country Soul grit, and Pop shimmer, her latest single “Merry Go Round” captures the all-too-familiar loop of chasing the wrong love — and the empowering moment you finally choose to get off the ride. Hot off the heels of BBC Introducing support and a dreamy Disney-esque ballad, Chloe returns with her most relatable and addictive release yet. We caught up with the singer-songwriter to talk heartbreak, healing, and hitting reset.

1. "Merry Go Round" feels like an anthem for anyone who's ever been stuck in the cycle of chasing the wrong person. Can you tell us what sparked the idea for this track and what the writing process was like?

Oh yeah it sure is.

Well I’ve done a lot of long distance & fallen for the wrong guys so many times.

This song was written a couple of years ago - I was in love with a guy I used to work with - there was a musical connection there & I was besotted with him for four years so I kept chasing & we went on dates but nothing ever materialised. I only ever had visions of this guy being the one.

We had this connection and I chased it so much so I really wasn’t interested in anybody else. I then took a job to be close to this person and unfortunately it never went any further even though I had big hopes being around each other something would materialise so it was a hard lesson learnt. You have to follow your heart & it doesn’t always work out. I’d rather follow my heart and get rejected than never find out. His actions never matched his words unfortunately and I felt like I had been toyed with that they just loved the praise & attention I would give them.

Merry go round was about no longer chasing somebody who isn’t investing their time into you. If the action isn’t behind the words they are saying to you then it’s time to move on & jump off that fairground ride.

2. You've described this single as playful yet rooted in real emotional experiences. How do you balance that light Americana-country pop vibe with deeper, sometimes painful themes in your songwriting?

I am an open book. I like to write from the heart. My songwriting can be important messages for other people that hopefully resonate - like a friend who needs someone to listen to or a hand to hold. Whereas my artist songs are from a very personal place and way more emotional but I hope others can relate also. We all have down days & suffer heartbreak & crushes & failures in life - why not share those moments in a song. Music for me is a way of sharing emotions and I listen to songs as I’m going through those emotions and can relate to the lyrics. Music is my escape sometimes. I’d love to give that back to others.

3. You’ve worked with Tyler Spicer on multiple originals, and he played guitar on this track too. What’s the dynamic like between you two creatively, and how did that shape the final version of “Merry Go Round”?

Tyler & I met on my first trip to Nashville - it was like “hey have you met the other English person” Haha, We kept in touch. Then I would travel to his studio in the UK to work on songs together with him.

He co-wrote & produced on my first EP - Swings & Roundabouts, which will be out later this year,  we have written several songs together. He is mainly country. I was just starting to become interested in country music so it definitely gave a new spin on the songs we wrote. The demo’s we made just sounded so good & tbh when I get a good demo I want that producer to finish out the track.

Our dynamic is like we’re old friends we’ve spent a lot of time in the studio together & he delivers excellent quality. We always strive to push the song to a better place. He’s very passionate and he just made the move out to Nashville full time so we actually just started some new demo songs when I was out there in February which is super exciting.

4. This track follows some beautifully heartfelt releases like “Let Me Be” and “My Heart Has Found A Home.” How does “Merry Go Round”represent your growth as an artist or perhaps a new chapter in your sound?

The romantic pop ballads - spun from healing after heartbreak and friends asking me to create some happy music, plus my life naturally developing through that time & healing after a big break up;. So my writing has progressed over the years as I have learnt more about songwriting, developing my style & collaborated more with various songwriters from around the World too which has greatly influenced my writing.

My heart has found a home was actually written in November 2024 with Jeff Franzel over zoom.  Whereas Merry Go round was actually written before that! In the studio in England. It was one of the first songs Tyler and I wrote on together. I have been experimenting - I love such an array of music and I think today’s youth also listen to such a broad range of music it’s good to be individual than copy cat. I strive to go against the grain wherever possible.

That’s one element then I combine that with a true desire of wanting to fall in love again which is so true to what I am feeling right now and Jeff and I connected over me being vulnerable enough to say that in a co-write.  I believe writing from the heart is so important, being courageous enough to be vulnerable and honest about it. That’s where the gold is.

I want to focus on getting better & better each day & if people resonate with those Lyrics then even better. There’s nothing better than when somebody says that they totally get you on a song. Cos they are also feeling that too at that time. Not everyone is gonna like what you do and I am totally fine with that. I have such an array of musical influences I do not want to pigeon hole myself into one genre. Im still experimenting as an artist. I think genres can be batches of work too. So yeah expect another twist later this year too hahahaha.

5. You’ve mentioned your influences range from Country Soul to Pop—who are some artists that have helped shape your musical journey, and how do you bring those inspirations into your unique sound?

Yes I grew up listening to r n b music - artists like Alicia keys & John legend and heavy piano ballads are a love of mine but then in 2023 when I started visiting Nashville the country music had such an impact - the depth of lyrics, I grew love for the guitar.  Phil Collin’s is a firm favourite for his timeless songs.

Then I’d always loved Colbie caillat, her voice & songwriting, then with Americana - artists like Caitlyn Smith I adore. Then with appreciation for all country music - I found artists like Megan Moroney, Riley Green, & Lainey Wilson - who is my absolute fave right now. Oh and Cody Johnson &* Carrie underwood duet - I am obsessed with that song! Im Gonna Love You. It’s prob my fave song right now and so romantic. I just love it.

6. For listeners hearing "Merry Go Round" for the first time, what’s the one message or feeling you hope they walk away with?

I hope they walk away with a feeling of it’s ok to be rejected, put it out there & if ita not right go & move on. There are so many incredible people in this World - someone will show up & love you the way that you deserve to be loved so don’t keep getting played around by words and no actions. Find someone who treats you right & consistently continues to do so.
