East London’s Humane The Moon are back with a mesmerising new single, ‘Tetris’, a slow-burning and emotionally charged collaboration with Glasgow-born, Manchester-based spoken word artist Kate Ireland. Led by songwriter Max Hanley, the five-piece have built a reputation for hazy, urgent indie that’s already won plaudits from BBC Radio 1, DIY, Dork, Best Fit, and Wonderland. Following support slots with Radio Free Alice, they’re now set to make their debut at SXSW Sydney later this year.
‘Tetris’ is both moody and magnetic—a track that captures the quiet overwhelm of city life, where noise and disconnection collide. Hanley’s distinctive vocals intertwine with Ireland’s stark, poetic narration to paint a vivid portrait of urban isolation. “Kate showed me what she’d written—about that feeling of urban overwhelm… lost between stations,” Hanley says. “It all spills out of a real moment.”
The single marks a bold new chapter for Humane The Moon, now a fully-fledged five-piece whose collaborative energy has sharpened their sound and deepened its emotional pull. With references ranging from Bowie to King Krule and a visual world inspired by Sputnik 2’s lone space dog Laika, the band continue to expand their sonic and thematic horizons.
Gritty yet introspective, ‘Tetris’ cements Humane The Moon’s status as one of East London’s most compelling rising acts—and a band unafraid to find beauty in the disorienting corners of modern life.
