Chapel Hill’s Florence Dore returns with Hold The Spark, a rich, character-driven new album out now via Propeller Sound Recordings — and easily her most expansive release to date. Moving fluidly between country-rock, folk, ‘90s alt-rock and flashes of psychedelic Americana, Hold The Spark is rooted in storytelling. Dore sketches out vivid portraits of American life, from Southern towns to overlooked corners of the heartland, threading humour, frustration and quiet reflection through sharp, literate songwriting.
At its core, the record leans into lived experience — capturing everything from workplace absurdity to the emotional shifts of later life — without ever losing its sense of melody or momentum. It’s as comfortable being wry and observational as it is heavy and introspective.
The album is backed by an impressive cast of collaborators, including Will Rigby, Jason Wilber, Chris Masterson, Mitch Easter and Libby Rodenbough, with production from Don Dixon and mixing by Paul Voran. The result is a record that feels both grounded in tradition and fully alive in the present.
With standout tracks like ‘Sunset Road’, ‘Twelve Great Minds’ and the title track, Hold The Spark positions Dore as a songwriter deeply invested in detail, character and craft.
The album is out now.
