Granada-born, Berlin-based artist and DJ Chico Blanco has officially announced his long-awaited debut album AMNESIA, landing 15th July via his collective Mareo, alongside the release of intoxicating new single “Baila.”
Blanco — real name Pablo Cobo — first emerged through a string of club-pop releases that quickly earned him a devoted following among adventurous dance music fans. With AMNESIA, he fully realises his vision: a hazy, emotionally charged dance-pop universe suspended between Berlin nightlife, imagined Ibiza memories, and deeply Mediterranean nostalgia.
New single “Baila” captures that spirit perfectly. Pulsing with late-80s Valencian new beat energy, flashes of Locomía-inspired flamboyance, and the swagger of classic New York hip house, the track feels like a euphoric transmission from another era. Blanco describes it as “that moment when your body and mind start speaking to you and you can’t resist the urge to go out and dance.”
Across AMNESIA, Blanco explores nightlife as an emotional cycle — from euphoria and liberation to strangeness, comedowns, recovery, forgetting, and the desire to disappear entirely. The album plays like a dancefloor dream sequence, romanticising places and moments that may never have existed at all. Speaking on the project, Blanco explains: “‘AMNESIA’ for me is a dance-pop fantasy suspended somewhere between memory and imagination. Each track is a portal to a forgotten place in time — fictional or real.”
He continues: “There’s something about romanticising places and moments you never actually lived through as a form of escape — a reaction to living in a reality where we’re able to choose between almost infinite possibilities, to the point where it becomes paralysing.”
More than just a stylistic evolution, AMNESIA marks Blanco’s boldest artistic statement yet. Inspired by Berlin’s queer club scene — which he has become deeply embedded within — the album embraces a freer, more human approach to dance music, shaped as much by the dancefloor as by his growing sonic identity through DJ sets and his acclaimed NTS residency.
