London artist Sarah Nimmo has unveiled the official video for her new single “The Soul”, offering another glimpse into her forthcoming debut album How Can I Explain Myself?, out 12 June. Leaning into the track’s cinematic feel, the video sees Nimmo step into a more surreal, storytelling-led world — something she says completely changed how she connected with the song.
“Making the video for The Soul was amazing, hilarious and a little surreal,” she explains. “It’s given me the bug… attaching the lyrics to a totally fictional set of circumstances helped me rediscover the song in a different costume.”
Directed by Mike Glover, the visual plays with that sense of escapism, pairing the track’s emotional pull with a more imaginative, stylised narrative.
The release arrives as Nimmo prepares to introduce her debut album, a record shaped by a major turning point. After a decade fronting her former band, she steps out solo, questioning the life she had built — from relationships to routines — and what comes next.
How Can I Explain Myself? sits in that uncertain space between endings and new beginnings. Drawing on 80s and 90s British pop influences, it blends big, euphoric moments with groove-driven production, all anchored by Nimmo’s powerful vocal.
Set against the backdrop of inner-city London, the album reflects on identity, change and the challenge of starting again — this time on her own terms. With “The Soul”, Nimmo offers a first look at that journey — cinematic, introspective, and quietly transformative.
“The Soul” video is out now. Debut album How Can I Explain Myself? lands 12 June.
