Porcelain Twin: Tracks That Shaped My Sound

Navigating through the maze of Craigslist rendezvous, audition letdowns, and the myriad peculiarities of online encounters, Porcelain Twin emerged in 2023. Hailing from Denver, this quintet delivers a fresh take on alt-rock, characterized by electrifying performances, infectious guitar riffs, and a rhythm section that packs a punch capable of testing your subwoofer's limits. Their sound is further elevated by captivating vocals that beckon listeners to hit the repeat button.

With their debut EP, "Crickets," Porcelain Twin delves into the complexities of aging, love, loss, and heartache, all underscored by haunting instrumentals. Produced by Collin Ingram and recorded at Denver's Band Cave Studios, the record showcases the band's raw talent and emotive storytelling.

As they gear up for a momentous 2024, Porcelain Twin invites fans to join them at the Mercury Cafe on February 15th for their EP release show, with more exhilarating performances on the horizon.

Brand New - Luca

A favorite band and song for most of the guys in the group, Luca is one that really stands out. We find ourselves noodling around with that opinion guitar riff a lot during warm ups and practices because it's so well done and catchy. As a whole, one of our favorite aspects of the song is its dynamic changes - it's able to come down to a very quiet bridge and then punch through with a strong ending. It feels like that really came through when we were writing “Change” and figuring out that we wanted to end the song on a more upbeat note.

Coldplay - Spies

The haunting vocals and instrumentals really pulled us in. This song does a great job of drawing the listener in with the vocal melody, something that Coldplay have always been great at. It ended up being very influential on our vocal tracks and melodies as it sets a gold standard to try and meet

Death Cab for Cutie - Cath…

With a killer opening riff, this track reels us in every time. The band takes several chances with this one and they all pay off - the borrowed chords in the choruses, the unconventional drumbeat in the verses and the salient bassline throughout maintain the listener’s interest from start to finish. Death Cab’s approach to a two guitar dynamic is really unique and it’s something that was kept in mind while approaching all four songs on Crickets, namely “Here Again”

Jets to Brazil - Chinatown

This one resonates with us on a deep level. It’s a perfectly executed and inspiring example of many songwriting ingredients that we are also drawn to: individual parts that generate interest, easily intertwining and never doing too much, powerful dynamic changes enabled by space, background vocals that add depth and character, memorable swirling guitar and vocal melodies, and a vibrant sonic landscape. Most importantly, this song stays true to itself throughout. It’s great simply for what it is without any ego getting in the way. Authenticity is a guiding principle for us and this one is a perfect example.
