Lucky Iris release Debut EP 'We Should Have Stayed At Home'

Leeds’ newest alt-pop duo Lucky Iris unveil debut EP Turns Out We Should Have Stayed at Home Lucky Iris is the moniker of Leeds alt-pop duo Maeve Florsheim and Jasper Exley, whose debut EP Turns Out We Should Have Stayed at Home exhibits a collection of silky, electro-acoustic tunes.

Born out of the success of the duo’s former funk outfit Everyday People, this new project paves the way for an exciting artistic shift toward a fresh aesthetic. Fans of Celeste, Shura, and Marian Hill will feel these stylistic influences on the pair’s production.

This diegetic concept EP is based around a night on the town, and how sometimes these don’t go to plan and it’s better to stay at home instead. Opening with the aptly titled ‘Get Ready With Me’, singer Maeve weaves soulful vocals with tales of playing personality dress-up, asking the question “aren’t we all just trying to be someone?”

‘Take 5 (Why Can’t You See Me?)’ is a melancholic ballad which depicts the struggle of wanting attention and validation from a particular person. Stripped down and led by delicate keys, this track is a hard hitting memoir of the stark contrast of feeling alone in a room full of people. As the EP progresses, the fictional night does too, with the pulsing ‘Glitter Vision’ mirroring the euphoria & freedom of club culture and releasing your inhibitions. Winding down with another piano-led track, ‘I Fell Backwards’ is an introspective reflection of the experience, with heartfelt and somber lyricism.

Lucky Iris demonstrates a real versatility and professionalism, on Turns Out We Should Have Stayed at Home - the duo is definitely one to watch as we expect big things on the horizon.
