Melbourne six-piece Shock Corridor have unveiled their gripping new single 'Ambulance!', the final preview of their forthcoming self-titled debut album, arriving 14 August. Accompanied by an evocative new video, the release further cements the band's reputation as one of Australia's most exciting emerging alternative acts.
Following the acclaimed run of singles 'Buster', 'Sheet Metal' and 'Spit Take'—which picked up support from BBC 6 Music, BrooklynVegan, The Line of Best Fit, METAL and ASBO—'Ambulance!' finds Shock Corridor pushing their cinematic sound to new heights.
Built around a pulsating sub-bass groove, the track gradually unfolds into a towering crescendo of jagged guitars, shrieking violins, marching percussion and swelling feedback. Blending post-punk, trip hop, experimental rock and orchestral textures, 'Ambulance!' captures the uneasy feeling of navigating empty city streets, balancing moments of quiet vulnerability with explosive intensity.
Speaking about the track, the band describe it as "a song for empty night escapades" that embraces ambiguity, with its title suggesting urgency while never fully revealing what lies beneath the surface.
Formed in Melbourne in 2019, Shock Corridor spent years refining their distinctive sound during the city's extended lockdowns before emerging as one of Australia's most compelling live bands. Their emotionally immersive performances have seen them sell out Melbourne's The Night Cat, share stages with Floodlights and Bleak Squad, and earn recognition as FBi Radio's Independent Artist of the Week.
Recorded over seven days at Soundpark Studios with acclaimed producer Dan Luscombe (The Drones, Amyl and the Sniffers, Courtney Barnett, Floodlights) before being mixed by Aaron Cupples (Spiritualized, Tropical Fuck Storm, Kirin J Callinan), the band's self-titled debut captures the immediacy and emotional depth that has defined their ascent.
Choosing to self-title the record, the band explain that it represents the broadest expression of who they are creatively, with each track reflecting the uncertainty, connection and resilience that shaped its creation.
To celebrate the album's release, Shock Corridor will embark on an Australian headline tour throughout August and September, taking in dates across Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Castlemaine and Brisbane.
With 'Ambulance!', Shock Corridor deliver one final statement before the arrival of a debut that promises to establish them as one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary Australian alternative music.
Shock Corridor is released 14 August. 'Ambulance!' is available now.
