Grime-metal trailblazer Native James has launched a new chapter, unveiling his blistering new single 'Never Been Scared' alongside the announcement that he has signed to SharpTone Records.
Featuring grime heavyweight Frisco, the hard-hitting track fuses Native James' trademark collision of rap, punk, rock and metal into an adrenaline-fuelled anthem about resilience and self-belief. Accompanied by a striking black-and-white video directed by long-time collaborator Reece Selvadorai, Never Been Scared arrives as the first taste of what's set to be a landmark era for one of the UK's most exciting genre-defying artists.
"This song is for people who need to overcome something," Native James explains. "Whether it's your personal best, an exam, work or life itself, it's a power play to remind yourself you can overcome whatever you want."
The single has already made a huge impact on the live circuit. Native debuted the track alongside Frisco during a standout performance at Download Festival, where the grime icon joined him on the Avalanche Stage for a surprise collaboration that became one of the festival's most talked-about moments.
Alongside the release comes confirmation that Native James has joined the SharpTone Records roster, sitting alongside artists including Loathe, Unpeople and Dying Wish. Reflecting on the signing, he said: "It feels insane that I'm signed to SharpTone. It feels like this is going to be a mad chapter for me, and I can't wait to bring everyone more music."
The label added: "From the moment we first saw Native James perform in a tiny basement in East London, we knew we had to be part of his story. He embodies everything we stand for: originality, personality and pure talent."
The announcement caps a remarkable run for the Ipswich artist. Following a breakthrough year that included a MOBO Award nomination, two performances at Glastonbury, support slots with Enter Shikari, Don Broco, Nova Twins and letlive., plus widespread backing from BBC Radio 1, BBC Music Introducing and Spotify, Native James continues to cement his reputation as one of Britain's most fearless new voices.
With a packed summer of festival appearances ahead, including Latitude, Outcider Festival and Secret Island Festival, and fresh backing from one of heavy music's most influential labels, Native James' momentum shows no signs of slowing down. If Never Been Scared is any indication, his next chapter is set to be his biggest yet.
