Rising country-pop artist Mabes returns with her most emotionally raw release to date, Death of a Hero — a powerful new single that blends Nashville storytelling with modern pop production.
Out now via APOLLO Distribution, the track explores the moment admiration turns to disillusionment, capturing the quiet devastation of realising someone you once idolised is only human. Anchored by aching vocals and cinematic country textures, Mabes delivers some of her most intimate songwriting yet, balancing vulnerability with a soaring, memorable chorus.
Produced by Matt Newman, Death of a Hero leans into warm, easy-listening pop while staying rooted in Mabes’ country influences. The result is a sound that sits comfortably alongside artists like Holly Humberstone and Griff — introspective, melodic and emotionally direct.
The single marks the second of nine planned releases for 2026, signalling a defining year ahead for the Essex-born artist. With over 70 million global streams and recognition from BBC Introducing as a “One To Watch,” Mabes continues to build momentum as one of the UK’s most compelling emerging voices.
To celebrate the release, Mabes will headline a London show at The Star in Shoreditch on May 28, where fans can experience the track live. With Death of a Hero, Mabes doesn’t just tell a story — she lays it bare, marking a bold step forward in an artist entering her most defining chapter yet.
