Leeds Shoegazers Van Houten Unveil New Single and Debut Album, 'The Tallest Room'

In the ever-evolving landscape of alternative guitar rock, Leeds-based sextet Van Houten has carved out their unique niche, creating a signature sound that breathes new life into the genre. Described by So Young as finding their footing and Far Out Magazine hailing their maturity and confidence, Van Houten is ready to take the music scene by storm.

Breaking the silence with their latest single, 'Never Did Come Back,' and an exciting announcement, Van Houten is set to release their debut album, 'The Tallest Room,' on March 22nd, 2024, via Clue Records / EMI North.

Formed on the foundation of seven years of friendship and a shared love for exploring the fuzzy, far-out corners of 90’s guitar music, Van Houten has become a force to be reckoned with. BBC 6Music's artist tip of the year, the band is gearing up to unveil their highly anticipated debut.

Vocalist & guitarist Louis Sadler shares insights into the powerful single, stating, “Never Did Come Back is probably my favourite song we’ve written to date. Lyrically I feel like it says a lot without saying much at all, and the simplicity of the instrumental feels really powerful. It’s definitely the song from our new record that we feel identifies us best as a band."

Produced by Alex Greaves (bdrmm, Working Men’s Club, Bloc Party), 'The Tallest Room' promises a captivating fusion of eclectic influences, conflicting emotions, and infectious hooks. The album, seven years in the making, is a testament to Van Houten's musical journey, celebrating the past and embracing the future with optimism.

Reflecting on the album, Sadler notes, "Our debut feels like the first real milestone in our musical journey. For us, this record represents a new beginning as a band and also me personally. It’s about gaining perspective, moving forwards, and while it acknowledges darker experiences & feelings, it’s ultimately about moving on."

With 'Never Did Come Back' gaining traction on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, and featured in Spotify UK’s New Music Friday, Van Houten is set to make a lasting impression with the release of 'The Tallest Room.' The album is available for preorder now, with options including a baby pink vinyl release and a special 'Dinked' baby blue edition, limited to 400 copies, featuring exclusive versions of 'Only Wanna Be With You’ & ‘Panoramic View’ and a VH balloon.
