Emerging experimental artist Laggard has shared new single “Good Things For Bad People I”, alongside announcing details of his debut album 7 Signs You’re Dating A Narcissist, set for release July 17 via Secret Friend.
Blurring the lines between experimental electronics and left-field club culture, Laggard’s latest offering leans into tension over release — a controlled, uneasy sound world where atmosphere takes priority over traditional structure.
Raised on drum & bass but drawn to its quieter moments, Laggard channels that instinct here. “I was always more interested in the intros and breakdowns,” he says — a philosophy that runs deep through the project’s DNA. The result? Music that feels club-adjacent but never reliant on it, trading drops for slow-building emotional weight.
Written and largely self-produced between a small desk in Stoke Newington and a childhood bedroom in Totnes, the album embraces a DIY ethos without sacrificing ambition. Across eight tracks, it moves between instrumental pieces and fragmented song forms, all tied together by a distinct, immersive production style.
New single “Good Things For Bad People I” offers a first real glimpse into that world — moody, textural and quietly confrontational, setting the tone for a record preoccupied with identity, failure and creative persistence.
With a second instalment of the track featuring collaborator Sonny also set to appear, the album signals the arrival of an artist intent on carving out something singular.
