John Myrtle Returns with a Sunny New Single and UK Tour Dates

Birmingham-born, London-based singer-songwriter John Myrtle has returned with his first new single in three years, "How Do You Break a Heart?", set for release on 14th May. Known for his sunshine-infused melodies and 60s-pop-inspired folk textures, Myrtle's latest track is a bite-sized gem that balances nostalgia with a fresh sonic upgrade.

Listeners can look forward to a playful yet emotive tune that encapsulates Myrtle's unique blend of folk and pop. This track marks a significant shift for Myrtle, who recorded all his previous material solo in his bedroom, including his breakthrough 2021 album "Myrtle Soup." However, for "How Do You Break a Heart?", he collaborated with acclaimed producer Jonathan Rado, a former member of Foxygen, who has worked with artists such as The Lemon Twigs and Weyes Blood. The result is a two-minute burst of joy that retains Myrtle's charm while adding a polished finish.

Myrtle described the creation of "How Do You Break a Heart?" as a spontaneous experience. "The song was pretty much conceived in the studio," he explained. "I had these chords that sounded like Burt Bacharach or something, and we took it from there! After we got all the instrumentation down, I remember ad-libbing the words on the spot, which I’d never done before, and tried to treat the performance of the vocal like I was an actor on stage—someone crying out for help.”

Following the release of his new single, John Myrtle will embark on a UK tour supporting Cut Worms, with dates scheduled across the country later this month. The tour kicks off in Birmingham on 19th May and concludes in Glasgow on 25th May, with stops in Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, and Hebden Bridge.

Myrtle's career has been steadily gaining momentum since his debut EP in 2019. His music has garnered support from notable outlets such as BBC Radio 6Music, where he's enjoyed extensive airplay, and he's had press backing from influential publications like So Young Magazine and Brooklyn Vegan. Myrtle has also made a name for himself on the live circuit, performing at notable venues and supporting established artists such as Kate Bollinger and Katy J Pearson.

As fans await the release of his latest single and the forthcoming UK tour, "How Do You Break a Heart?" serves as a delightful taste of what's to come, promising even more new music from John Myrtle later in 2024.
