James Massiah and MAY unite on atmospheric new double single 'Grave/Stoner'

James Massiah and MAY have joined forces for the first time on new double single 'Grave/Stoner', a richly textured collaboration that sees two of London's most distinctive underground voices converge in compelling fashion.

Having first met at a show in 2024, the pair quickly formed a creative partnership, drawn together by a shared instinct for pushing beyond conventional genre boundaries. The result is 'Grave/Stoner'—a dark, introspective pairing that intertwines MAY's cinematic production with Massiah's unmistakable lyricism, creating an immersive sonic world rooted in the spirit of London.

Marking MAY's first-ever feature and producer collaboration, the release opens a new chapter for both artists, blending alternative electronics, spoken word, art-pop and hip-hop into something entirely their own. Rich in atmosphere and emotional weight, the two tracks explore themes of mortality, identity and urban life through a lens that feels both deeply personal and strikingly universal.

James Massiah has long occupied a singular space within British music and poetry, first emerging as part of Dean Blunt's Babyfather before becoming one of London's defining underground voices. Whether through his acclaimed New Poems series or his boundary-blurring Adult Entertainment poetry nights, Massiah has built a reputation for incisive writing that explores ethics, hedonism and the realities of modern city life. His work has been championed by publications including The Guardian, The Face, Dazed, Vogue and i-D, while collaborations with brands such as Dior, Prada and Loewe have cemented his cultural influence.

Meanwhile, London producer, songwriter and visual artist MAY continues to establish herself as one of the UK's most exciting emerging talents. Known for writing and producing all of her own material, she's earned widespread acclaim from NME, The FADER, Rolling Stone, DIY, The Line of Best Fit and CLASH, alongside support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Apple Music. Having toured alongside the likes of Jockstrap, Porches and black midi, MAY has become recognised for her fearless approach to alternative pop and immersive visual world-building.

With 'Grave/Stoner', the pair lay the foundations for a deeper creative partnership. James Massiah and MAY are continuing to write together, with plans to release a full collaborative project next year.

The release arrives ahead of a run of live dates for James Massiah, including appearances at Dekmantel Festival in Amsterdam, London's Palais and MOT, before heading to Australia later this year.

'Grave/Stoner' is available now.
