SOPHIE GREY. has always existed somewhere between the familiar and the futuristic. Blending shimmering synth-pop with cinematic world-building, the self-described "Retro Electro" artist has carved out a universe entirely of her own—one populated by glowing moons, sentient robots and euphoric dancefloors that feel as though they exist somewhere beyond Earth's atmosphere.

Her latest single, "Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)", arrives just ahead of June's Strawberry Moon, transforming the celestial event into a glittering anthem of collective release. Built around soaring hooks, luminous synths and an infectious sense of escapism, the track marks another bold step into SOPHIE GREY.'s ever-expanding creative world.

With major support slots alongside Duran Duran, Grace Jones, AJR and Sophie Ellis-Bextor on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for the artist. We caught up with SOPHIE GREY. to talk about the inspiration behind Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up), building the ever-evolving Retro Electro universe, and why Cyberspace is a place where everyone belongs.

"Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)" arrives just ahead of the Strawberry Moon and feels deeply connected to themes of ritual, release and collective euphoria. What first inspired the song, and how much did the moon itself shape the creative process?

To me, the moon is a very powerful source of energy. Looking into the night, your eyes always glue themselves to the moon. I felt that energy the night I wrote this song, and I believe it was fate.

You've described your sound as "Retro Electro," but there's also a distinctly cinematic, futuristic world surrounding the music. How do you balance nostalgic synth-pop influences with the more sci-fi vision that's become such a defining part of your artistry?

Retro Electro is the fusion between the familiar and unfamiliar. And that's exactly what I feel my music portrays. There's comfort in it because it brings nostalgia, but also mystery from the unknown. I am constantly travelling interplanetary, and Retro Electro has become my state of mind.

As someone who writes, arranges, performs and produces your own music, every part of the creative process feels incredibly personal. When you were creating "Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up)," what elements were essential in capturing that euphoric, almost out-of-body feeling at the heart of the track?

In Lunar Highs (Hands Go Up), it was important to me to capture what a night out feels like on the moon. It's exhilarating, mysterious, fierce and welcoming of all. I feel like anyone can be Lunar High.

Your visual universe feels just as important as the music itself, from the theatrical costumes and immersive staging to your ever-growing cast of robotic companions. How do the live show and the music evolve together, and what role do File Collins and your Robot DJ play in bringing the Retro Electro world to life?

I create my live shows with lots of intention. Last year, I planted my flag on stage to represent my arrival into this new world. This year, that flag is standing proudly as I take audiences to Cyberspace—a place that's only a few moments away from anyone at any time.

I'm always accompanied by voice by my robot companion, File Collins, who has become an Easter egg throughout almost all of my music videos and live streams. File has been with me since day one and helps guide us into Cyberspace. My Robot DJ is the newest addition to the Retro Electro galaxy, featuring some of the highest levels of technology.

This summer sees you sharing stages with legendary artists including Duran Duran, Grace Jones, AJR and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. As your audience continues to grow, what do you hope people experience when they step into the world of SOPHIE GREY. for the very first time?

I'm so very excited to perform this summer, and especially honoured to be on the same bill as these incredible artists.

For the duration of my set, I hope the audience truly feels transported into Cyberspace—a place where problems cease to exist and everyone is accepted for who they are.
