Introducing: Sissy Green

Updated: Apr 11

Good Fight is the latest genre-blurring release from Sheffield-based dance-pop artist Sissy Green. A bold, high-energy anthem built for the dancefloor and the open road, the track fuses house-driven beats with sharp-edged rap features. Teaming up with Syke Torrance (frontman of rising Yorkshire punk band Bait Britain), Sheffield rapper Surtees, and her own brother, Midlands-based rapper Atts, Sissy Green brings together a fierce Northern lineup for a track that’s as punchy as it is infectious.

Dizzee Rascal ft Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me

With my latest track Good Fight, I really wanted to capture that 00s, early 2010s feeling of a kind of dance music club track that had a rap section on it. Calvin Harris has always shaped the way I look at producing music. The rap parts give the track a bite to it and I wanted to bring that into my own work for this one.

Atts - Nocturnal

I produce music for other artists alongside producer and DJ, Soph (@sphwbb) and this is a track we were making for my brother, Atts (@atts4k) around the time I made Good Fight. Atts Is a phenomenal rapper and I'm not just saying that because he’s my brother. He really set the tone for what I then went on to write and I just couldn’t resist getting him to jump on the record.

Odd Future - Oldie

This track is a no-brainer for me. Odd Future and all the artists that came out of that group soundtrack my life! I fell in love with Tyler and that whole new wave of early 2010s rap music. The Oldie music video is so simple and was filmed during a photoshoot. What I love about it is that a cost saving measure actually became quite stylistic and it informed the choices I made when I filmed the video for Good Fight.

Gonna Fly Now

Ok. Bear with me here. This piece of music has no influence whatsoever on the musical aspects of Good Fight but thematically, it feels like every up and coming, independent artist is basically Rocky. You’re just out there, trying to catch a break, believing in yourself and your craft, dodging whatever challenges come your way. Or trying to. I could put Rocky and Bill Conti’s amazing music on almost every list of what inspires me, but given the vaguely boxing influenced lyricism and imagery of the track, it just feels right it being on this list.
