1. our music draws from a variety of genres, creating a unique fusion that sets you apart. Can you tell us more about your musical influences and how they shape your sound?
My music draws inspiration from a variety of genres, creating a unique fusion that sets me apart. I take great inspiration from all corners of music, but I am particularly drawn to artists who excel in the art of storytelling. One of my biggest influences is Dave, whose ability to weave emotional narratives in his music is truly inspiring. I also find inspiration in artists like Myles Smith and Dominic Fike, who bring a raw and emotionally-driven approach to their music. When I listen to their work, I envision untold chapters and draw upon certain aspects of their instrumentals to shape my own sound.
2. As both a singer and songwriter, how do you approach the process of creating your music? Do you start with the melodies, the lyrics, or a combination of both?
As both a singer and songwriter, my approach to creating music involves a combination of melodies and lyrics. However, I have a unique process that starts with the name of the song. Once I have the name, I can build a cover art that helps me envision the story and atmosphere of the song. To further shape my sound, I create a reference playlist on Spotify where I gather songs that I enjoy. I carefully note down aspects of these songs that resonate with me and inspire me. Interestingly, all of my music is written while I'm on the London Underground, traveling back and forth between places. I can't quite explain it, but there's something magical that happens when I listen to music and am on the move on a train. It ignites a creative spark within me and allows me to fully immerse myself in the music-making process.
3. Your songs often explore themes of love, life, and personal growth. Can you share a specific experience or story that inspired one of your tracks and how it reflects in your lyrics?
Certainly! One of my tracks that was inspired by a specific experience is my newest song, "RIO." It tells the story of a girl whom I believed was my person, but unfortunately, she ended up breaking my heart and leaving me. In the lyrics of "RIO," I wanted to capture the bittersweet nature of love and how it can be both a dream and sometimes just a chapter in our lives, rather than a whole book. I drew inspiration from emotions and the act of expressing oneself, which is why love is an ongoing theme in my music. To add a touch of whimsy and nostalgia, I included references to Disney movies and fairytales in the song. These elements allowed me to dive deeper into the idea that love can sometimes feel like a fairytale, but it can also come to an end unexpectedly. Through the lyrics of "RIO," I aim to convey the beauty and complexities of love, as well as the personal growth that comes from heartbreak. It's a reflection of my own journey and emotions, and I hope that listeners can relate to it on their own paths of love and self-discovery.
4. Being an independent artist from North London’s vibrant Islington neighborhood, how has your environment and community influenced your music and artistic journey?
Growing up in London, just like many others, I had dreams of making it in life and living comfortably. However, my personal journey was shaped by various hardships that I encountered along the way. These hardships made me extremely self-aware of my own emotions and the emotions of others. Witnessing raw emotions and the complexities of human nature within my community had a profound impact on me. It ignited a desire within me to achieve something meaningful and make a difference in the world through my music. The vibrant energy and diversity of Islington have also played a significant role in shaping my music. The rich cultural tapestry and the unique experiences of the people around me have inspired me to create music that reflects the diverse perspectives and stories of my community.
5. With your captivating sound and heartfelt lyrics, what message or feeling do you hope to convey to your listeners through your music? How do you want them to connect with your work?
My message with my music is always love but not just love for the people around you but self love and to always remember to enjoy all aspects of life the highs and lows because your life isn’t a chapter it’s an entire library.
