Hot Chip have announced their ninth studio album, A Long Way From Kansas, arriving 8 January 2027 via Domino Records, alongside the release of new single ‘Random Violence’ — a moving tribute to the late Optimo DJ Keith McIvor, aka JD Twitch.

Accompanied by a video featuring the all-female progressive morris dancing side Boss Morris, ‘Random Violence’ is a celebration of music, community, resistance and a life well lived. The track honours McIvor, a passionate socialist and influential figure in Glasgow’s music scene, whose impact on the band is reflected in its heartfelt lyrics and euphoric energy.

Speaking about the song, Joe Goddard recalled meeting McIvor at Glasgow’s Sub Club around 20 years ago, describing him as a passionate music lover and staunch believer in socialism. The accompanying video, directed by Jack Cole, draws inspiration from the legendary Optimo Espookio Halloween parties, bringing together surreal imagery and a spirit of collective celebration.

A Long Way From Kansas* finds Hot Chip embracing a rawer, more distorted sound, reflecting the chaos and uncertainty of the modern world while searching for moments of connection and joy. Recorded at Joe Goddard and Al Doyle’s East London studio, Relax and Enjoy, the album features guest appearances from Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon, alongside expanded group vocals and choir arrangements.

The album follows a landmark year for the band, who appeared in the second season of Netflix’s Beef and celebrated the 20th anniversary of their second album, The Warning, in May.

To celebrate the announcement and honour McIvor’s legacy, Hot Chip will DJ alongside friends at Glasgow’s Sub Club on Wednesday 21 October.

The band have also confirmed a UK and European tour for early 2027, including a London date at Exhibition White City on 12 March.

A Long Way From Kansas is available to pre-order now, with the first album pressings featuring limited-edition spot gloss and foil-blocking artwork by Scott King.

A Long Way From Kansas is released 8 January 2027 via Domino Records.
