Getting To Know: Archie Orme

At just 22 years old. Working from the intimate confines of his bedroom studio, Derby-born and bred Archie Orme strives for perfection in simplicity, seamlessly blending classic influences with a modern twist that is unique and distinctly his own. We spoke to Archie ahead of the release of his new track Bang! Bang! Bang!

1. You’ve mentioned that you draw inspiration from iconic bands like The Stone Roses, ABBA, and The Clash. How do you balance incorporating their influence with creating a sound that’s uniquely your own?

I'd say different elements of each to be honest, especially whilst producing. I’d say the energy of the performance is a big part of how i like it to sound and The Clash nail that with everything, passionate. The melodies of ABBA are just pop perfection, and the synths they used are classics, think they just resonate nicely so i tend to be drawn to similar sounds whilst producing. And the Stone Roses nail grooves and i think the harmonies go underrated. To be fair, I tend to make music that i’d like to listen to, and i think it sounds cool i’ll do it haha.

2. Your music is described as a blend of jangly guitars, synths, and catchy melodies. What’s your creative process like when it comes to fusing these elements together?

I tend to put melodies to music. I’d normally come up with a melody sometimes with out without words and if i still remember it hours later it’s worth making a song out of. Figure out the guitar parts to it and write a song round that. Then the main part is producing it and using different sounds, which i tend to get drawn to different types of synths , and i play so thats the most useful thing for me to do.

3. You’ve developed your sound in the intimate space of your bedroom studio. How do you think this environment has influenced your music and the way you approach songwriting?

I think that because im comfortable in my environment i experiment with different stuff and just get to do it as many times till it’s right. Maybe subconsciously lyrically i write more personal stuff but dont exactly realise till after it’s done.

4. Punk attitude and self-belief are central to your artistry. In an era where commercial pressures often dominate, how do you stay true to your musical vision without compromising?

Again i think i just stay in the mindset that i make music for myself and what i like, so in a narcissistic kinda way if i like it, then it it’s good haha.

5. Your debut single 'Bang! Bang! Bang!' releases soon. What can listeners expect from this track, and how does it reflect the overall direction you’re taking with your music?

I think it’s just a perfect opener for the music i’m gonna be releasing, i think all the songs i write fit in the same sort of vibe. I feel as through experience with bands and writing and recording for so long i’ve really found my own personal sound. I think this tune in particular would be sick at a festival and even live. It’s been sounding great in rehearsals and it’s just an upbeat summer banger, in the middle of autumn.
