DJ LAG – THE UNDISPUTED KING OF GQOM – ANNOUNCES NEW MIXTAPE ‘SOUTHSIDE’ (OUT NOVEMBER 14) AND DROPS NEW SINGLE ‘WAWAWA’

International dance heavyweight and self-proclaimed King of Gqom DJ Lag returns with a fresh burst of club energy, announcing his brand-new mixtape Southside—landing November 14—and dropping the high-voltage single ‘WaWaWa’, featuring DJknator and Thobeka. Hot on the heels of his global hits ‘GQTech’ (with Ape Drums) and ‘Woza’, Lag’s latest anthem channels the fever of a packed dance floor—glasses raised, bass rattling, and bodies moving in sync. Reuniting with Thobeka (the voice behind last year’s ‘Yebo’) and teaming up with DJknator, ‘WaWaWa’ delivers the kind of kinetic, percussive heat that defines Lag’s world-shaking sound. “Thobeka always brings fire vocals, and DJknator added a fresh spark to the beat,” says Lag. “I hope people vibe with it as much as we did.”

The forthcoming Southside mixtape dives deep into the sound of Durban’s townships while pushing Gqom into bold new terrain. Across 12 tracks, Lag fuses his trademark grit with 3-Step, Afro-Tech, and hints of Amapiano. The result is a genre-blurring journey that celebrates homegrown rhythm while reaching for global dance floors. Collaborations with DJ Maphorisa, Vigro Deep, Sir Trill, Ape Drums, and Jay Music highlight Lag’s versatility and unstoppable creative momentum. From the anthemic ‘NgyaSindelwa’ to the Gqom-Amapiano hybrid ‘NgyaGowa’, Southside builds on the sonic rebellion that earned Lag praise from Mixmag (“one of the best ambassadors for dance music in the world”) and DJ Mag(“a pioneering force in Gqom’s global explosion”). With a career spanning festival sets at Glastonbury, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra South Africa, and DC10 Ibiza, plus high-profile collaborations and a feature on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, DJ Lag continues to shape the future of electronic music. “With Southside, I wanted to celebrate where I’m from while showing where the sound is going,” he says. “It’s for the people who’ve been with me from the start, and for everyone discovering the movement for the first time.” ‘WaWaWa’ is out now. ‘Southside’ arrives November 14.
