Experimental electronic duo Deus Ego return with their explosive new single ‘VICE GRIP’, out now via APOLLO Distribution. The track serves as the first taste of their forthcoming EP INEXORABLE, landing in late March.
A high-impact alt-electronic cut, ‘VICE GRIP’ distils the duo’s signature tension into three minutes of distorted synth textures, driving rhythms and razor-sharp hooks. It’s vulnerable but volatile — leaning into emotional intensity without sacrificing the energy that’s quickly becoming their calling card.
Built on blistering synth lines and restless electronic riffs, the track pushes forward from the sonic foundations laid by earlier releases including ‘CATHARSIS!’, ‘Party 2nite’, ‘MORBS’ and ‘SEEN IN THE NIGHT’. The result feels bigger, dirtier and more urgent — a statement of intent ahead of what promises to be a defining EP.
Formed in 2017 after meeting at university, Sif and Omen have steadily refined the Deus Ego project into a self-produced, self-mixed and self-mastered machine. Fiercely independent and proudly anti-AI in approach, every sound is crafted by hand — a philosophy that adds grit and authenticity to their maximalist alt-pop sheen.
Taking cues from boundary-pushers like Artemas, Porter Robinson, Gorillaz and 100Gecs, the pair blur genre lines with cinematic ambition and club-ready immediacy. Since debuting with 2025’s ‘cut the FAT!’, they’ve built momentum through BBC Introducing support, Spotify Fresh Finds UK & IE placements, and headline shows in Manchester — including a Platform Sessions appearance for Chris Hawkins at the Engine Shed, the very venue where the project began.
With ‘VICE GRIP’, Deus Ego crank the pressure up another notch. If this is the opening move, INEXORABLE looks set to hit hard.
