corto.alto announces new album SOME SMALL FORTUNE and shares Lagos-shot single ‘GO’ featuring Vector

corto.alto has announced details of his new album SOME SMALL FORTUNE, with the Glasgow artist set to return on 4th September via Ninja Tune. Alongside the album news, Liam Shortall has also shared new single ‘GO’, a propulsive new cut featuring Nigerian lyricist Vector, landing today with an official video shot on location in Lagos.

Led by Shortall — the multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer behind one of the UK’s most shape-shifting jazz-adjacent projects — SOME SMALL FORTUNE looks set to push corto.alto even further beyond the boundaries of his Mercury-nominated debut Bad With Names. The new record brings in a wide-ranging cast of collaborators including Mick Jenkins, anaiis, Jacob Alon, Oscar Jerome, BINA., Terra Kin and Eriff, with Shortall describing the album as a deliberate move toward more open, expansive collaboration.

If Bad With Names established corto.alto as one of the most inventive names in the UK’s new jazz landscape, SOME SMALL FORTUNE sounds like the point where that world blows wide open. Built from chopped samples, field recordings, live-band chemistry and Shortall’s instinct for restless, left-turning composition, the album draws from hip-hop, electronica, classical, indie and broken beat without ever sitting still for too long.

New single ‘GO’ offers an early glimpse of that maximalist scope, pairing Shortall’s fractured, rhythm-heavy production with a sharp guest turn from Vector. It arrives as the latest step in a rapid rise for the Dumfries-born, Glasgow-raised artist, who has spent the last few years turning corto.alto into one of the most exciting and hard-to-pin-down live propositions in the country.

Since the release of Bad With Names, Shortall has picked up a Mercury Prize nomination, won AIM’s Breakthrough Artist award, sold out a UK headline run including a major KOKO show, and taken corto.alto to audiences across the US, Australia and Europe. That momentum is set to continue this year with further North American, UK and European live dates, as well as a huge 2027 headline date at Glasgow’s Barrowlands Ballroom.

Shortall has said the new album was shaped by memory, nostalgia and a period of personal reflection sparked by rediscovered family photographs after his parents moved out of the family home. The result is a record that sounds both deeply personal and gloriously uncontained — one built from instinct, experimentation and the sparks that fly between old friends, new collaborators and ideas pushed to breaking point.
