Chloe Slater Reimagines Normal People with Heartfelt New Single and Video ‘Harriet’Out now on Stolen Juice (AWAL Recordings)

Chloe Slater is no stranger to turning personal moments into cultural flashpoints — and with her new single ‘Harriet’, the rising Manchester songwriter adds another standout to her growing canon of sharp, emotionally loaded indie-pop.

A fan-favourite in waiting, ‘Harriet’ is a sparkling, sun-drenched ode to the chaos of young love and the emotional fallout that lingers. Slater, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones (a long-running in-joke among fans), uses the resemblance to her full advantage — reimagining the cult show’s most iconic scenes in a lovingly crafted new video directed by Bonnie MacRae. From Connell’s bedroom to that infamous supermarket dress, ‘Harriet’ rewrites the narrative with charm, confidence, and just enough chaos.

Harriet is one of my oldest songs,” Slater shares. “I wrote it at 18 in the worst student halls imaginable, during my first heartbreak. There’ve been so many versions since, but this release feels like a little nod to that girl — like a real ‘I made it’ moment.”

Produced by Shute, ‘Harriet’ layers melancholic lyrics over warm, woozy guitars and shimmering textures. Where Normal People left space for what went unsaid, Slater leans into what we’re often too afraid to say aloud. Her Marianne doesn’t wait to be chosen — she steals the scene entirely.

The release follows Slater’s acclaimed Love Me Please EP and a run of UK/EU tour dates supporting Alessi Rose, and builds on growing industry and fan buzz. With support from Pitchfork (“exuberance and sparkle”), Rolling Stone UK (“a voice to be reckoned with”), and NME (“the firebrand songwriter that’s about to be everywhere”), Slater’s trajectory is only accelerating.

Her songs — raw, self-aware, and darkly funny — have struck a chord with a generation negotiating class anxiety, digital fatigue, and romantic disillusionment. And with over 9 million streams to date, breakout tracks like Fig Tree and Sucker continue to build momentum.

This October, Slater hits the road for her biggest headline run yet: the Choose A Life UK tour in partnership with War Child, with a £1 donation from every ticket going directly to the charity’s work.
