The London-based singer-songwriter continues her powerful reintroduction with “Out In The Open”, a deeply emotional ballad that puts vulnerability front and centre—and proves exactly why she’s one to watch.
Following recent releases “Trust My Gut,” “Begging On My Birthday” and “Heads Up,” the new track strips things back, spotlighting CHARLS’ soaring vocal and gift for storytelling. Exploring the quiet breakdown of communication in relationships, it’s a song that lingers in the spaces between words—where distance grows and clarity hits too late.
As CHARLS explains, the track came from both observation and experience: watching relationships unravel before going through the same herself. Revisiting the demo, she says, “it completely knocked me for six”—and it’s that emotional weight that gives the song its punch.
Alongside the release, CHARLS has shared a stunning live session recorded at KOKO’s studios as part of Miraval’s Artist Spotlight series. Captured in one take, the performance is raw, unfiltered and quietly devastating—offering a glimpse of her undeniable presence as a live performer.
Already co-signed by heavyweights like Elton John and Lewis Capaldi, CHARLS is stepping into a new era of full creative independence. With a debut album on the horizon, her latest material charts a deeply personal journey through heartbreak, growth and self-reclamation.
From early acclaim to major festival stages, she’s built a reputation on honesty and vocal power—but “Out In The Open” feels like a turning point.
