Cafe 1001 Celebrates 25 Years On Brick Lane With Charlie Dark Headlining Anniversary Weekend

East London institution Cafe 1001 has unveiled plans for a two-day anniversary celebration marking 25 years at the heart of Brick Lane's cultural landscape. Taking place on August 28th and 29th, the venue's "Homecoming" weekend will bring together longtime collaborators, residents and friends of the space, with Charlie Dark MBE leading Friday night's programme.

A pivotal figure in UK underground culture for more than three decades, the Attica Blues co-founder, DJ, producer and poet will headline the opening night alongside Cafe 1001 regular Chris Wheatley, with additional artists still to be announced.

Saturday shifts focus to the venue's extended family, with residents Lucide, Gaby D'Annunzio, Hannah Lamb and Eman Pav joining the 1001 All-Stars for an all-day celebration stretching from midday until midnight. The event arrives as Cafe 1001 continues to expand its influence beyond East London through its year-long European Hi-Fi Tour, a cultural exchange programme connecting the venue with some of the continent's leading listening spaces and audiophile communities.

Reflecting on the milestone, Creative Director Luca Pilato said the anniversary is ultimately a celebration of the people who have shaped the venue over the past quarter century.

"Cafe 1001 is one of those venues that belongs to the people who use it and has always evolved," he said. "We've had first dates turn into marriages celebrated at our venue, staff members have become resident DJs, customers have become lifelong friends, and generations have passed through our doors."

He added: "After taking our programming on tour around the UK, it felt right to bring it all back home to Brick Lane. We've invited artists and selectors who have a real connection to the venue, alongside a programme of cultural events that reflect the creativity and community that have defined Cafe 1001 for the last 25 years."

Since opening on Brick Lane, Cafe 1001 has become one of East London's most enduring grassroots music spaces, supporting emerging artists while hosting internationally recognised DJs, selectors and live acts spanning electronic and alternative music cultures.

The anniversary celebrations mark the latest chapter for a venue that continues to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in the community that helped build it.

Cafe 1001's 25th Anniversary takes place on August 28th and 29th at the venue's Brick Lane home.
