Brighton Newcomers GOODBYE Arrive Fully Formed With Mesmerising Debut Single “Meat”

Brighton’s newest indie/dream-pop export Goodbye make a spine-tingling entrance today with the release of their debut single “Meat”—a track that doesn’t shake your hand so much as lock eyes with you across the room and refuse to look away.

Out now, “Meat” distils the band’s agitated, ghost-lit dream-pop into three arresting minutes: weaving, glistening guitars; taut, driving rhythms; and vocals that glide between comforting tenderness and a serrated emotional edge. It’s the kind of debut that stops conversations mid-sentence.

Recorded at Unwound Studios with Morgan Fraser-Jones (Blood Wizard, Flip Top Head, Kissing Gate), “Meat” tackles the unsettling sting of objectification.Frontwoman Megan Wheeler explains:“It touches on the idea that some men see women as lustful objects rather than human beings… sometimes a stranger looks right through you, stripping you of everything you are. Most women I know have felt this, so I kept the lyrics purposefully open.”

Formed only a year ago in Brighton’s bustling DIY scene, Goodbye have already carved out a formidable live reputation. Their first hometown shows sold out, and festival appearances at The Great Escape, Mutations, Manchester Psych Fest and Wilderness quickly followed. They’ve also supported Lambrini Girls (at their Electric Brixton headline), Lime Garden, mary in the junkyard, Bdrmm, Fantasy of a Broken Heart, Welly and Truthpaste.

Hype has arrived early and loudly:DORK hails them as the ones who’ll “burst through the door sooner than you think,”NME tags them “Ones to Watch,”So Young praises Wheeler’s “impressive-yet-haunting vocals,” andHard of Hearing call their sound “ghostly and enigmatic… familiar yet refreshingly distinct.”

To mark the release of “Meat”, the band will play an intimate in-store at Bella Union before more shows roll out in 2025.

With a debut this confident, Goodbye aren’t introducing themselves—they’re announcing their arrival.
