break_fold Returns with Hypnotic New Single ‘The Bairns’ via analog horizons

Bradford-based electronic artist break_fold kicks off 2025 with ‘The Bairns’, a blistering new single released today via EMI North Records label partner analog horizons. A masterclass in controlled chaos, ‘The Bairns’ pulses with jagged basslines, shimmering glitch-infused synths, and a restless energy that’s as playful as it is propulsive. Named after the northeastern slang for children, the track captures the whirlwind joy of two toddlers tearing through a family home — in this case, break_fold’s younger cousins.

“The song is supposed to represent the sound of the two boys causing havoc,” says break_fold, aka Tim Hann. “I remember them bounding around my parent’s house chasing each other and playing games.” The result is a track that pairs deep emotional roots with razor-sharp sonic architecture — a signature move from Hann, who has been crafting expansive, genre-agnostic electronic music from the solitude of his home studio since 2017.

His distinct blend of ambient textures, fractured beats and left-field synthwork has earned him praise from BBC 6 Music tastemakers Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe, positioning him as a rising voice in the UK’s underground electronic scene.

‘The Bairns’ is the first of many releases planned for 2025, with break_fold promising a year of “boundary-defying soundscapes” as he continues to explore the fringes of electronic music.
