Actress announces new album Radical Frame and shares hypnotic new single 'Overchord'

Electronic visionary Actress has announced his long-awaited new album Radical Frame, due for release on 18 September via Ninja Tune, alongside the release of immersive new single 'Overchord' and an accompanying visual directed by Anna van der Velde.

Arriving 18 years after his seminal debut Hazyville, Radical Frame finds Darren Cunningham reflecting on the singular artistic language he has forged across more than a decade of boundary-pushing electronic music. The new record distils the fractured rhythms, abstract textures and emotional depth that have become synonymous with Actress, while pushing his sound into bold new territory.

Opening a new chapter in Cunningham's ever-evolving creative journey, Radical Frame also features collaborations with masked UK rap icon CASISDEAD on 'Live By You' and acclaimed producer Rainy Miller, further expanding the album's restless sonic palette.

Leading the announcement is 'Overchord', a mesmerising centrepiece that follows the previously shared 'Live By You'. The track arrives alongside a striking new video directed by Anna van der Velde, depicting Cunningham confined within a luxurious prison of his own making—a surreal meditation on freedom, identity and self-imposed boundaries.

Inspired by ideas surrounding the Black avant-garde, Radical Frame is positioned as both a culmination and a passing of the torch. It draws on Cunningham's many creative identities—from footballer and DJ to composer, writer and visual artist—to present what feels like his most complete artistic statement to date.

The album spans eight tracks, balancing fleeting sonic sketches with moments of hypnotic intensity and dancefloor abstraction, continuing Actress' reputation as one of electronic music's most uncompromising innovators.

Following a busy run of international DJ and live dates throughout 2026, Actress will perform live at Pitchfork Festival London this November, alongside appearances at We Out Here, Unsound Kraków, Robot Festival and more.
