Monthly Line-Up List: July 18'
It’s been a while but we’re back and summer is finally upon us. July is a month full of all-day summer sizzler events and stacked cool down parties as we get our one week a year heatwave. Although seeing a shift of events from the university cities to the UK’s major ones, we see no shift in the weight of line-ups. If you’re not at any of this month’s festivals or need a party to get to on your way back from one, have a look at what we suggest for this month… Enjoy!
Friday the 6th
Leon Vynelhall (All Night Long) @ The Black Box Belfast
Fresh from the release of his stunning album last month, Leon is back on tour again, playing both live and DJ sets to not only promote the album, but himself, as he begins this new chapter in his career. He travels to Belfast for his first all-nighter since the release, playing at the city’s new multi use venue The Black Box. You just can’t go wrong for £12.
Friday the 6th
Hunee and Sassy J @ Sub Club, Glasgow
The title tells the story here. With the flamboyant and expansive Hunee and Sassy J bringing their deep collection to the world-renowned Sub Club. The rush hour kingpins play all night long, probably in a b2b format, flowing through multiple genres to create what should be an unmissable night.
Saturday the 7th
Coconut Beats: Africa @ Phonox, London
Phonox’s rising star resident in HAAi brings back her coconut beats parties this summer. Starting this month, she brings a variety of worldwide sounds to Phonox through the artists that best represent those in 2018. With every week offering a different flavour it’s hard to choose just one for July but after seeing her recently, Auntie Flo’s sounds of Africa has to be the one I recommend. The night will be a true celebration of African sounds and the Coconut Beats concept itself.
Saturday the 7th
Oval Space with Sadar Bahar, Antal and Bradley Zero
From the off you can tell how special this one will be. Chicago’s finest funk and soul collector and now Oval space Resident Sadar Bahar tops the bill in this worldwide showcase of digging. We also see a surprising Oval Space debut for Rush Hour head honcho Antal who is joined by London Boundary pushers Bradley Zero and Zakia. Expect a proper party from start to finish.
Friday the 13th
Joseph Capriati (3hr Set) @ Sub Club, Glasgow
I’ve already touched on the power of subby (Sub Club) this month but it’s hard to think of many other men in techno that are so fit for the club’s ethos. Slam bring the world-famous Joseph Capriati to the booth for their monthly Mono party. His extended set will see him flex his musical abilities in the best way possible to the sub club faithful. Selling out well in advance, you can have no doubt about this one.
Satuday the 14th
Tiger + Woods @ The Berkley Suite, Glasgow
Easily event poster of the month, over the moon present Tiger + Woods all night long in Scotland’s cultural capital. The secretive pair plau all night long (a rarity for them) in one of only four booked dates this summer. After a string of increasingly well-received releases, it’s hard to think these lads will be a secret for much longer. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch them in an intimate setting while you still can.
Saturday the 14th
M:Openair presents Sonja Moonear, Voigtmann & More
As Uni ends for most students, finding a reliable line-up outside London is quite rare, but Modular’s constellations party is back in Liverpool for a heaving summer garden party. After one of the most talked about sets from Houghton, Sonja Moonear returns to constellations for a back to back with Voigtmann. They are joined by some Modular regulars to finish off the bill.
Friday the 20th
Chunk Presents DEBONAIR b2b Ecair Fifi
Probably the worst event poster I’ve seen in a while but it’s for one of the most exciting line-ups of the month. The Nest continue their great booking policy and low door prices with this one. They bring DEBONAIR and Eclair Fifi together for their first ever b2b. The trusted NTS stalwarts will keep the basement going till close, probably my pick of the month.
Saturday the 21st
Steven Wonderland Day and Night 5th Birthday: Part 2
After taking the last few months off with this article I haven’t been able to chart the rise of Stratford’s new spot, Mick’s Garage. The interesting, multi-level, open plan warehouse space that opened officially this year has a solid booking policy and seems to be a well-run club. So much so that Stevie Wonderland are celebrating their 5th birthday there this month. They bill a stacked line-up featuring sets from Kornel Kovacs, CC:Disco and a special Ballearic sunset set form Ruf Dug.
Saturday the 28th
Fabric: Craig Richards b2b Midland, The Mole and Jane Fitz
After recently stepping down from his legendary fabric residency, Craig Richards returns the infamous R1 booth he’s so synonymous with. Joined by Graded label boss and famed digger Midland, the pair will go back to back until close in this one, with both pushing each others sonic limits. London’s ever rising Jane Fitz DJ’s and The Mole play live to hypnotise the Farringdon faithful with their unique blends of techno goodness.
