Getting To Know: The New Twentys
The New Twentys harness the liberating feeling of being young and bottle that bittersweet aftertaste of summers gone by. Rising out of the ashes of former bands, brothers, Harry and Jimmy Morris met fellow muso Chris Bourne through the cracks of the London music scene. As the conversational lyrics unraveled it was clear that everyone was on the same page, coming to terms with both industry and life frustration. Inspired by the same classic UK punk / new wave bands that came before them - The New Twentys was born in the summer of 2020. Their recent track Rush is an upbeat summer anthem, that we can't wait to blare out our next BabyStep BBQ.
Hey guys, how have you been since we last spoke with you? What's new with the band?
Hey yeah all good thanks! We’ve been writing loads, Chris has been out in LA and we have announced a tour we are doing in April hitting up Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Manchester and Bristol which we are pumped for! How are you guys?
It's so exciting to see you are touring! How does it feel to finally be able to enjoy our newly found freedom of playing live again?
It feels amazing, we’re itching to go! We’ve been to see quite a lot of gigs recently and it’s really got us in the mood! We are seeing Sam Fender tonight (April 1st) and saw Pale Waves, Funeral for a Friend and Hot Milk recently.
Are there any shows you are looking forward to in particular?
We went to see a show at Omeara recently too and it’s such a sick venue we can’t wait to play there! We’ve heard amazing things about King Tuts and Scottish crowds being the best, so we are looking forward to verifying that!
What were the highlights of last year for you/ how do you reflect on it as a year?
Selling out our London headline show has to be up there! Playing the festivals (BigFoot, Rock Oyster & Weekend In The Park) was a great experience too, the big stages were exciting. Plus Tesla stock went up 50% so that helps…turned our £50 into £100.
What albums/songs will you be listening to on the tour bus? (We need some inspo for the studio playlist).
We will probably end up doing a demo Darby and playing each other loads of half finished tracks. Apart from that probably some Talking Heads, early Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Mini Mansions and watching Glastonbury headliners full sets on YouTube.
What can we look forward to this year from The New Twentys?
Loads more music, loads of shows and some videos thrown in there! Hopefully another tour!
