'I am The Chosen One': The Latest Public Headloss of Donald Trump

Following an astonishing flurry of puzzling statements issued by the American President this morning in a press conference on the White House lawn, it seems that the sanity of the Donald Trump has somehow been called even further into question than it already was.

A few days ago, Trump tweeted an image which turned out to be a joke, but could have easily also been a genuine diagram plucked straight out of one of his business planning meetings. Upon the serene backdrop of a remote coastal village, a giant image of the Trump tower had been superimposed amongst the quaint rural cabins. The image was accompanied with the caption 'I promise not to do this to Greenland!'

If you had seen this tweet without understanding the context, it would be reasonable to assume that Mr Trump had completely lost his mind. Adding in the context however, that assertion remains completely within reason, as it was announced a few days ago that Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland. Yes, buy it.

"Essentially, it's a large real estate deal' he explained to reporters. "A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly, because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it. So they carry it at a great loss.” This very kind and firmly logical offer to shoulder the burden of the world's largest island was somehow rejected by Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister, who responded immediately. She called his proposal 'absurd', informing Trump that 'Greenland is not for sale. Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland. I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously'.

With worrying confidence, and with a grammatical syntax implicit of a mental age of around eleven, Mr Trump responded, claiming that Frederiksen's use of the word 'absurd' was 'a very not nice way of saying something'. He then went on to call her 'nasty', a word he seems to reserve for women he disagrees with, and, following an unexplainable political tantrum, proceeded to cancel his state visit to Denmark.

So Donald Trump isn't going to be buying Greenland any time soon. But this section of the press conference was just the tip of the iceberg, and the following twenty minutes took us on an extremely alarming safari through the teetering mind of one of the world's most powerful men.

A question is called from the crowd: 'Yesterday you said that 'Jews that vote for Democrats are "disloyal". To whom are they being disloyal, sir?'

'I have been responsible for a lot of great things in Israel' replies Trump. 'No President has ever come close to what I have done'. The evasion of the question itself we can assume means that Jews are in fact disloyal to their country if they fail to vote for him, and are, as he later stated, 'disloyal to Jewish people'. Trump is then quick to interrupt and ignore another shouted question: 'But aren't American Jews Americans, sir?'

A very confusing and offensive trajectory to say the least, but if we refer to the ever- fruitful wisdom- mine that is the @realDonaldTrump account, we can find the potential origin of this warped and backwards thought process.

One of his recent tweets contains the following quote: 'President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world...and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he is the King of Israel. They love him like the second coming of God'.

Surprisingly, these aren't the words of the man himself, but rather come from the infinitely reliable source of Wayne Allyn Root; a self proclaimed 'capitalist evangelist' who is widely known as a conspiracy theorist. Born Jewish, he claims he 'took Jesus Christ as a saviour' 30 years ago, yet retains he is a Jew. He elaborates; 'Jesus Christ was a Jew, and the CEO of the Christian religion'. Right.

As well as peddling the theory that the 2017 Las Vegas shooting was carried out by Muslim terrorists rather than white American Stephan Paddock, and that white supremacists weren't actually responsible for the deadly violence in Charlottesville, Root has since described Jews as 'relentless' and that 'they like to hammer down the door till they get what they want”.

Considering Trump's choice of source material for his proclamation of Messiah status, it comes as no surprise that the Jewish community is greatly offended. The specific comment to which the reporter's question was referring was that any Jew voting for the Democrats indicates 'either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty'. 71% of Jewish Americans voted Democrat in the last election, so inevitably these antisemitic tropes found within Trumps assertions have caused considerable upset to the extent that many are calling for the invocation of the 25th Amendment; a process by which the President can be declared unfit for office.

But it doesn't end there. The press questions take a different course, and begin to pick apart Trump's trade war with China. He begins by stating that China, as well as mass intellectual property theft, has 'ripped 500 billion dollars' out of the US economy. Then, in an odd and abrupt fashion, anointed himself 'The Chosen One', accompanied by an eccentric backwards glance up to the sky behind him. 'Somebody had to do it, so I'm taking on China'.

His time in front of the camera was laced with a multitude of other absurdities, including a complete denial that people having access to guns is at all responsible for gun deaths, that he is 'seriously looking into ending birthright citizenship' and that he 'is the least racist person to ever serve in office.'

With such a high number of earth-shatteringly inane comments being made in such a small space of time, one can only assume that the man has been playing far too many video games. But with #25thammendmentnow becoming a top trend on Twitter following this morning's fumbling shambles, it seems that Mr Trump is not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
