Inner City Electronic Essential Playlist

Inner city electronic returns to Leeds for another city wide celebration of electronic music and culture on Saturday June 1st 2019.

Taking place across a selection of Leeds-based venues, this year’s festival will run for 24-hours, mirroring Leeds’ cultural renaissance as a European-style 24-hour city. The first names announced for the multi-venue event include Nina Kraviz, Nightmares OnWax, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Ben Ufo, Octave One, DJ Stingray, Ross From Friends and many others.

inner city electronic will take place at 11 of the leading venues in Leeds including Brudenell Social Club, Church Leeds, Distrikt, Freedom Mills, Hifi, Hope House, Hyde Park Book Club, Old Red Bus Station, Sheaf St, Wire, The Wardrobe, plus secret locations to be announced.

The festival line up will perform at venues across the city over 24-hours, running alongside a comprehensive daytime programme of talks and workshops at the conference, focused on musical development, music industry, culture and technology, which is yet to be announced. In anticipation of the festival we decided to curate a playlist, featuring tracks from the artists performing at the event.

Raw Cuts #3- Motor City Drum Ensemble

Danilo Plessow is Motor City Drum Ensemble, his eclectic discography hailing influence from the greats in Chicago and Detroit House to the legacy of Aphex Twin. Check out Plessow’s Boiler Room sets and his iconic ‘Raw Cuts’ sample series.

Willow’s only EP ‘Workshop 23’ will be sure to pique your interest: bringing together an mysterious ambient blend of dark bass notes, soft R&B melodies and techno. Take a dip into one of Manchester’s underground gems.

Too Late for U and M1- DJ Seinfeld

Hardcore fans will know of his falling onto the vapourwave scene of 2016, DJ Seinfeld’s Armand Jakobsson has since released an eclectic host of EP’s, including his own DJ-Kicks mix. Combining raw lo-fi house with emotive breaks and beats, his 2017 debut full-length release ‘Time Spent Away From U’ has put him at the forefront of deep house.

Aus- Nina Kraviz

Techno goddess Nina Kraviz needs no introduction. Her career is so expansive she’s earned herself a reputation as one of the most well-respected female DJs of the moment. Delve into her self-titled 2012 album for a raw representation of her immediate style.

Arthur- Kelly Lee Owens

One of the most revered releases to come out of the ambient-techno scene in 2017 was London based producer Kelly Lee Owen’s self titled album. With collaborations from Daniel Avery to Jenny Hval, Owens has established an ethereal presence for herself in the electronic scene.

Don’t Wake Dad- Ross From Friends

Felix Weatherhall aka Ross From Friends is a British producer who dips between lo-fi house, minimal techno and melodic dance. Check out his 2018 Brainfeeder debut ‘Family Portrait’.

Move Like Atoms- Mor Elian

Israel born producer Mor Elian has been in the game since 2005 creating her own futuristic techno sound in the underground dance scene. Her single ‘Doss Groove’ is a lo-fi techno affair, and we can’t wait to see her in Leeds this summer.

Stuck in Russia- DJ Boring

DJ Boring nearly broke the internet with his Youtube release in 2016 ‘Winona’, an ode to Winona Ryder with an atmospheric lo-fi style. Appealing to the cult-like vapour wave and lo-fi fan base of the time, he’s since released a host of EP’s and singles. His addictive 2018 EP ‘For Tahn’ is groovy deep house with a melodic undercurrent.
