Label Spotlight: Glitterbox
Over the summer, myself and a few mates were lucky enough to grace the white isles (Ibiza) for the second time in our short lives. 2017 was arguably a transitional year for the Island and it was clear going into it that a lot had changed. One of biggest developments was the illustrious Space’s closure and reopening as the new state-of-the-art, Ushuaia owned Hï Ibiza. All the spotlight seemed to be on the club’s biggest residents in Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz and Black Coffee but all the talk when on the Island seemed to be about their Glitterbox party on Fridays.
Glitterbox has come a long way from its more arcane parties at ‘Booom Club’ in 2014, since hosting a series at Space in 2016 and then Hï this year. The night attracts an older, more flamboyant crowd, harking back to a time when partying on the island was colourful and carefree. The soundtrack is mostly classic house and disco, with giants like Masters At Work, Basement Jaxx, Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Todd Terry and Armand Van Helden all featuring this summer. But it’s not just their parties that have caught people’s attention, they successfully launched Glitterbox Recordings in 2016 as a sub-label of defected and have had a string of well received releases,
Glitterbox Recordings promotes a vibe it’s parties have become known for with free flowing, jaunty house and disco releases that are still fit for the dancefloor in 2017. The label has gone from strength to strength since their first release in 2016, with monthly releases now becoming a staple for them. Whether it’s rebuffed classics or fresh originals from this year’s hottest DJ’s, there’s something for everyone in their already meaty back catalogue.
