The Cosmics: 'Glastonbury was incredible, it was like a dream come true for us all!'

It was only a few months ago when Erin, Connor and Danny dreamed of going to Glastonbury, only to miss out on getting tickets. Yet their dreams came true in the most surreal of ways, when they were asked to perform there. Ever since the announcement they haven’t looked back, being booked for several other major summertime festivals. We talked to the Birmingham based trio ahead of their busy summertime schedule about; their influences, thoughts on the general election and what we can expect from them it the future. After recent standout festival performances at Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight festival, it would surprise you that this is all something very new for The Cosmics.
Congratulations on just being announced for Glastonbury, when did you find out the news and how does it feel?
Glastonbury was incredible, it was like a dream come true for us all! It was so surreal, we couldn’t believe that we had been asked!
Getting booked for Glastonbury must be one of your greatest achievements as a band so far, what other standout moments have you had as a band?
It was definitely! Playing at the Isle of Wight Festival was also a huge achievement, we will be playing at Kendal Calling in a few weeks time as well. It’s amazing seeing our name on the line ups with all these big bands! Another big achievement was releasing a record with Flying Vinyl last week, that’s pretty cool!
When listening to your music you can hear some great 60’s/70’s influences such as The Ramones and The Stooges. Who would be a less obvious artist that you have drawn inspiration from, that not many people might not know about?
Bruce Springsteen is a big influence. We love the stage presence that he has and how confident and passionate he is while performing, he just shows that he loves what he is doing. We like to think that we come across that way while on stage and we hope we can engage the audience like he does.
What are your thoughts on the recent general election?
Oh Jeremy Corbyn!
Since you guys are family, was it the case you were jamming with each other long before you became a band?
Yeah, we have been jamming together for years. We started out playing cover songs and we were in a bit of a cover band, then we found our own sound and started to make our own music.
You guys are flying the flag for female-fronted bands, how important is it that more girls get involved in music?
Girls should definitely get involved in music, we think that you should do whatever you want to do regardless of what gender you are (as long as you don’t hurt anyone!)
What can we expect from you guys in the near future?
We have a few more festivals lined up now for the rest of the summer, as well as some gigs too dotted around. Then we are hoping to do more recording towards the end of the year… so watch this space!
